Secondary: The elephant in the room

D-Will fumbled, Olsen had key drops etc... but I wasn't really expecting much from our offense, especially against a defense like Seattle. I think the beginning of the end for us yesterday was when Seattle found holes in our secondary and started to attack them. If we can't generate a pass-rush, preferably with the front 4, I think other teams are just gonna copy what Seattle did.

I like Mikell, but Godfrey has always been a bum and then we move him to Free Safety(smh). Like Captain, but he won't start on any team not named the Carolina Panthers. I also still don't know why we released Florence as we could have at least used his veteran leadership. We have a beast defense that can single-handedly win games despite problems on offense. Just hope we clean up our secondary and this won't be a recurring theme.

#22 was a liability in coverage and special teams.

The rest of them are ok provided the front 7 can get push.

That's the key phrase. If we can't pressure with the front 7, I think we may get burned by good QBs.

If we had a secondary, this defense is one of the best I have seen ever

Godfrey isn't as bad as you are suggesting, I would like to see a replay of the TD to see why he was a few steps late helping out over top.  I didn't notice Norman at all, which could be a good thing but I dont think he got much playing time.  I know they brought in Moore for Thomas late but Norman should be starting.

I doubt we see miracle catches and avoided sacks like that again until we play kaep. Not every qb we face can escape like Wilson. We had 2 sacks but that number should have been 6. That will kill drives and give cam the ball more. At least I hope

Yeah..any other QB that would have been a lot of sacks.  I don't blame the secondary at all.   Good coverage most of the game.  Almost all the yards were checkdowns or plays where Wilson extended them an ungodly amount of time.  I don't think we will fall for the bootleg as much anymore.

I was ok with the secondary. Some of Russel Wilson's completions were very well defended. Other times he did his scramble drill and the Dline couldn't let him out of the pocket. The dline will get those sacks against most QBs.

I just listened to Rivera talk about how on the long TD catch Charles was playing single high post. To me that is a coaching mistake. They need to roll help to JT when he just had to chase a 9 route on the previous play. They run in a fresh receiver and do it again. I was shocked Godfrey wasn't rolling over the top for him.

Thomas started because he is better in zone coverage.  Norman plays when we play more man.  Why did we play zone?  Given we were worried about their running game and Wilson scrambling, using zone allows the secondary to see them running and make the tackle.  In man you are more focused on covering your guy.  Hopefully with Manuel in the pocket more we will use more man and hopefully use Norman more.
