Im not quite sold on the idea we need a offensive mind for our next HC.

First and foremost, let me say this is in no way a thread saying I am against hiring a OC or offensive minded HC next season. If he is the right guy for the job, I am very much for hiring a OC. But what I am saying is I strongly disagree with this notion that some Panther fans have that "we need to hire a offensive guru to grow with Cam as our next HC." Or "Its OC or bust!" While I understand in these dire times in Panther land, a lot of fans want complete change and want us to hire a OC just for the sake of changing things up, but looking at this objectively, im not so sure im sold on that and here is why.

Former DCs;

Bill Bellicheck/Tom Brady

Mike Tomlin/Ben Roethlisberger

Pete Carroll/Russell Wilson

John Harbaugh/Joe Flacco

Tony Dungy/Peyton Manning

Marvin Lewis/Andy Dalton

John Fox/Peyton Manning

Chuck Pagano/Andrew Luck

Mike Smith/Matt Ryan

Former OCs

Mike Mccarthy/Aaron Rodgers

Gary Kubiak/Matt Schaub

Sean Payton/Drew Brees

Tom Coughlin/Eli Manning

So whats my point? What am I trying to say? My point is this, I know a lot of fans are saying we must hire a OC that grow with Cam and while in theory this does make sense, I am just not sold on the notion that we HAVE to hire a offensive minded HC for Cam to have any future success. As Bill Bellicheck, Chuck Pagano, Pete Carroll and Tony Dungy can back up, the bottom line is you can still have a dynamic, franchise QB and explosive QB with a defensive minded HC. My bottom line to this is, I dont want us to reach for a offensive minded HC just for the sole purpose of change. I will be completely fine with another defensive coordinator aslong as he proves to be a very solid HC candidate.

I agree completely. I don't understand why people automatically think that just because Rivera was/is bad does not mean all defensive minded coaches will make bad HCs. History has shown otherwise.

That said, I would not be shocked if we looked at guys like Mike Zimmer and maybe a dark horse like Dan Quinn

We need coaches that have spines and brains. That's all I ask for. Tough and clever

Exactly. I know noone agrees with me but I really wouldnt mind Rob Ryan. Yes I know its not a flashy, sexy college HC and yes I know his brother is Rex Ryan but I read article on him today and about how he worked under Bill Bellicheck he learned A LOT about the importance of adjustments and adapting to flow of the game in real time and coaching toward more different sitautions as opposed to just Xs and Os and it was a very intresting read. Thats like the anti Rivera way of doing things.

He took a absolutely horrid Saints D ranked 32nd last season and turned that D around to a championship caliber defense in just a matter of months. I watched interviews he did recently and he is nothing like Rex as far as being overly dramatic. Id love seeing Rob Ryan as our next HC. Not only that but Id also love nothing more than screwing over the Saints in a big way.

The problem isn't our defense though and I would be too afraid he would come in and change it to a 3/4 Defense when things are starting to gel with our 4/3 Defense

We will hire an offensive coach and everybody will be happy.

The next year our offense will be good while our defense blows and everybody will blame Gettleman for firing our old coaches.

I don't care if he is offensive minded, defensive minded, or special teams minded.

I just want a guy who can coach and can create an identity for this team.

I don't care if we go 90 miles per hour, or ground and pound and try to grind out wins. I just want to be efficient and for the team to buy into what the coach is selling them.

Although I will say that I would prefer a guy with head coaching experience whether that be college or a retread.
