Thoughts on how we matchup with Tampa

NFL is about matchups more so than who has win more games. Here are a couple thoughts I have for the upcoming game.

The Bucs QB does one one thing pretty well...and that is throw a nice deep ball. Vincent Jackson was targeted 22 times on Sunday (not a typo). We have defended the vertical pass poorly this year.....so that matchup is a concern. Pass rush doesn't get there every play. So when it doesn't....there is a big matchup advantage for Tampa.

Also, the Bucs are stout up front. We tend to be one dimensional against those type DLs. That puts more on Cam to be the chain mover with his arms and legs. Don't see Williams doing anything Thurs. Revis also should be on Smitty. What does that mean? Olsen, LaFell and Ginn will win or lose this game (that is pending the OL doesn't get abused).

Outside of that, our DL should be able to bottle up be run and attack the QB. Need the D to keep on keepin on. But no one on one for Jackson.....we can't allow that

I expect a MUCH tougher game than the 0-6 record of Tampa suggests. Should be a close game.

Revis is not the revis of old. Not saying smitty is going to have a field day or anything but I'm not chalking it up to him being shut down either just because revis is on him. I've seen revis get beat multiple times the last few weeks.

Revis isn't a zone corner.

If they put him in man coverage on Thur?? Don't mess with dat dude

All I know is the Bucs secondary made Nick Foles look like Joe Montana and Harry Douglas look like Jerry Rice.  I think they've quit on Schiano.  Martin's out and Goldson may be as well.

This is absolutely a game we should win by double digits.

Absolutely agree w/ this. Another game Carolina SHOULD win.

Thursday has potential to be the Cam Newton show to a nationwide audience.

I think it'll be a lot like the Rams game. They have a stout front 7 on defense with some playmakers in the secondary. They're a tough defense all around.

On offense they have a new, immobile QB, no Doug Martin and a couple of very good WR's.

Game plan will probably be the same as this week.

On D: Get to the QB and force him into short throws and keep him behind the chains. Stifle the run game and force Glennon's hand.

On O: Pound the ball inside and take what the D gives you downfield.

How the Bucs respond is going to be key. I don't think they'd given up on Schiano yet, but they're damn close. A couple punches to the face early could easily lead to another blowout win for the Panthers IF, IF and only IF they come out ready to play.

revis won't be on smitty much. they have revis playing zone.

the bucs have no real pass rush anymore. no sacks against the falcons? lol they are ok against the run, but you spread them out the way the eagles did and you can overcome it. and being one dimensional against them isn't really a problem that people have been having with them, as in being one dimensional hasn't been that big of a deal. sure...only one rushing TD scored against them this year, but they've given up 11 psasing TDs.

glennon targeted vjax 22 times....out of 44 attempts. only connected with him 10 times. and this is against ATL who isn't known for being exactly studs against the pass. sure, he got 138 yards and 2 TDs out of that, but again, it was against the falcons.

glennon is pretty much an immobile QB who relies on the deep ball who has an OL that is pretty craptacular at the moment. read: fresh meat for monsters, inc.

and i don't want to factor in how the bucs are in the final moments of their spin down the crapper, but that really isn't something to overlook, i mean in gameplanning it should be overlooked, but in looking at this matchup from the outside looking in i think you absolutely take it into account.

it's REALLY hard not to feel incredibly confident about this game.

    • I'll say 6. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition and will do more to help the defense than anyone. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole there. For all the hype surrounding Sanders and Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
    • 2010 was worse. Not much worse but worse.
    • Lol since 2017 the Panthers are 47-85,    Also since 2017 the Giants are 40-91-1   Lol
