Smitty in the backfield

Just saw Denver run a play with Welker coming out of the backfield to catch a pass.

 

Draw it up Shula!! Smitty on a screen pass

I wouldn't mind just having him line up and run off tackle to the weak side.

And split Ginn to the same side of the field as Smitty. Have him run a post. It would be a DEADLY play if executed.

one question I have is on third down, why not use olsen and 3 WR (so 4 eligible targets) on the LOS along with Smith and Cam lined up in shotgun? Smith lined up against a LB....makes too much sense.

Smitty is by far my favorite player of all time. But that being said, if anyone has seen him attempt a spin move (1 in TB game, 2 in Buff game) or quick cut juke this year knows he's only about 40% of what he used to be. He doesn't have it anymore. I would have loved to see him in the backfield a few years ago. Now, not as much. It's a shame his peak years were wasted with Delhomme, Carr, Vinni, Moore, and Pickles

We put LAfell in the backfield all the time. Steve just isn't explosive anymore. He's still good because he can run routes but he doesnt break tackles the way he used to.

Anyways, that's old news. Thinking about having Smitty made me think about AE not attempting a pass on any kind of trick play

because they saw what he could do in practice and went with Jimmy fuging Clausen instead.
