what 49er fans are saying

Those Niner fans reek of homerism.. nearly all think they are going to blow us out by 30 or 40 points

Yeah seriously, it's one thing to think you're team will win but some of the scores they are saying like 59-10 niners is ridiculous homerism and doesn't give the panthers the respect they deserve.

I would love to beat the 49ers. I think this would really put us on the map. No one including Jimmy Johnson and Howie could belittle us then. This could be the biggest win of the season. This and MNF

I hope they keep it up though. That board has a decent chance of being ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS come Sunday evening.

Love how everyone is saying Panthers are going to get blown out because we have only played crappy teams. Look at the 49'ers and the teams they beat. LOL. This game is evenly matched.

This isn't true at all. Look a few pages back where I quote multiple posts by 49ers fans on the official messageboard who are worried about this game.

There are a few idiots who say we win every game by 40, but most of us know this is going to be a tough game.

49ers went to the super bowl for a reason..they are legit and this is our litmus test. When the schedules came out I had this game penclied as a loss, but with the way Car has been playing we have a shot. I expect something in the lines of 21-17. As usual depends on turnovers and whoever ggets td's instead of fg in the red zone.

My pick is a toss up.

I don't think this will be an exciting game to watch offensively.. Seattle has stomped you guys several times and they got lucky to get out of here in week 1 with the win.. I think it's going to be something like 17-14 with the game coming down to a mistake or special teams.. maybe Gano will nail a 60 yard FG to seal it.. dudes been insane with his accuracy from over 50 yards

Man, I would love to go out there and beat SF... that would be a statement win.

I respect the 49ers but the blowout losses to Seattle and Indy give me a lot confidence in our ability to beat them. We went blow-for-blow with Seattle and probably would have beat them if not for a fumble the week before they blew out SF.

I think this will be a very physical, low scoring slugfest between these two teams through the first 3 quarters - then things will open up for our running game in the 4th and we'll leave with a W.

That's the problem I had with the game yesterday.. the only real receiving threat was Gonz and I didn't see him doubled once.. I kept mentioning to my friend how he was single covered all day long

We shut Gonz down in the 2nd half yesterday.  He got his yards in the 1H.

Need to see the physical Steve Smith and Ted Ginn from the Rams game. They both could have made plays on each of Cam's interceptions but allowed defenders to make more aggressive moves on the ball than they did. The 49ers are physical and bullies on defense - seems to be consistent with every team in the NFC West. Their DBs will cause turnovers if our WRs don't play with a chip.

So, enough with the Keek-Willis debate.  Both are good enough to put their team in a position to win, and that's all that matters, right?

Let's talk strategy:  I say we sell out against the run.  Kaep is a serviceable QB, and can do some amazing things with his feet.  I think Cam is the better over all QB, especially considering the weapons he has to work with.  If we put an end to rushing attack, which I think we can do, limiting it to around 90-100 yards collectively, I think we win, because that means that Kaep is having to throw the ball to win the game.  And let's face it, he's no Peyton, Brady, Brees, hell, even Ryan, as far as reading defenses and getting the ball out quickly and on target to avoid the pass rush--he scrambles in order to avoid sacks.  But like I said, if their run game is limited to 90-100 yards total, then we have forced him to throw it, which I don't think he is good enough to do.

On offense, we need to continue converting on 3 downs [unlike the ATL game with the piss-poor playcalling], and controlling the clock.  Cam needs to be on-target with his intermediate throws, and we need to get their LBs running sideline to sideline with our trio of running backs.  An off day by Cam in the air, and we could be in for a long game on both sides of the ball.  Cam doesn't have to be spectacular, though; just decent.

Plus, extra motivation for Ginn å la Tolbert against San Diego last year.

tl;dr-Headline version:  Panthers Stop SF Run; Win Tight One

    • I really appreciate Bill explaining his methodology here because that gives interested parties a chance to try and recreate the results themselves. I believe that it's safe to assume that despite emphasis being placed on WRs that Chuba Hubbard is one of the Panthers' top-5 weapons. Considering targets, yardage, receptions, etc... Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette are also on the list. Jalen Coker's success might have snuck him in there as well. I can't draw a conclusion on who #5 is though. I've narrowed it down to Diontae Johnson, David Moore, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and possibly Rico Dowdle if they're taking into account his production for the Cowboys in 2024.
    • Unfortunately business is business especially when there are large sums of money on the table. Goes the same for player and ownership. Does not make it right either way.  Why would he not want to play for the niners? Closer to home with a team that has a chance of delivering a SB trophy.
    • I don’t know if it’s him bad mouthing his former situation in public or my pettiness but either way I’m not a fan. Dude was on playoff teams getting paid millions to entertain. I’m not better that because and I am better than that. You don’t bad mouth your former employer in public. Esp after getting over paid and two, poor little Russian baby didn’t get the playing spot he wanted. Rod had him exactly where is was supposed to be.  He had a mean lip check and did defend our players. Specifically the devils game around Christmas where is our Haula on his ass. Cool. Thank you. But don’t talk poo about us. Because it make you look like Haula.    “need to get as far away as possible”. fug off. Didn’t see Burnsy bad mouthing and his play dropped off too.    sorry, but Orlov doesn’t get a pass from me. See you twice a year…
