SI.com: Panthers Among NFC Elite

SAN FRANCISCO -- After his Panthers lost three of four to start the season, coach Ron Rivera couldn't have been more proud when his team won two in a row to reach .500 in October for the first time since 2008. But the satisfaction of the 30-15 victory over the Rams was tempered that night when Rivera and his wife went to dinner at Del Frisco's, an upscale steak house in the South Park neighborhood of Charlotte, N.C.

Seated in a private room, they watched the Football Night in America pregame show and waited for highlights of the Panthers. And waited. And waited some more. Rivera estimates that over the next 60 to 90 minutes he saw the Panthers mentioned only once.

"I looked at my wife and I said, 'We're not relevant,'" Rivera recalled. "Then I told the players the next day, 'Nobody talked about your asses because we're not relevant. But you know what? We're going to become relevant.'"

Dont wana crown him too soon, but Rivera has a story similar to Thomas Davis.

Obviously Davis is king, but in terms of a story where someone refuses to give up, I feel like Rivera fits.

just think of all the contraversy Rivera has been through. He was like a game away from being fired in two different seasons. Standing in front of reporters every week where they make you out to be a complete fool every week takes some serious humility. I respect him like ni other because of it.

Ive called for his head several times, but im glad he didnt get wacked. He overcame serious adversity and it inspires me. We are lucky to have so many great characters in the organization.

Riverboat Ron is a bad ass and has some serious nads.

Didn't anyone tell Riverboat that Football Night in America sucks? Harrison hates us and doesn't want to bring us up b/c he has to eat his own words. Berman/Dilfer/TJ/Saunders went off on how awesome we were tonight. They are the only reason I watch ESPN, and they delivered tonight. TJ kept mentioning how he was the only one that picked us. Also, Jaws picked us this week and his winning % is the best out of all the anal-ysts.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
