Just look at the standings on nfl.com.  You'll see that we would remain equal on division record, which takes the tie breakers to conference I believe.  We won't gain anything on that by beating an AFC team, and we would need them to lose one more in addition to the niners to come down the two games they are ahead.

If we win and Saints lose, are we still 2nd in NFC South?

i don't know.

if that happens then we will have beat two teams that they lost to (pats and 49ers) and they will have beat two teams that we lost to (bills and cards).

not sure how that works out, but at the very least it still puts us on very even footing with them going forward and gives us a little advantage because they will still have to go to seattle to play and face us twice. in those three games i think it's realistic that they go 1-2.

i think both teams will win most of their games from here on, but i can see us coming out with more wins.

Saints over Niners??????? No F'ing way.

As of now we hold the H2H tiebreaker over SF, and the Conference record tiebreakers over GB and Chi.  Were about 85-90% to get into the playoffs.  We have a very legit shot at winning the division.

Catching the Saints could be the difference between our path to the super bowl consisting of 3 road games, verses a bye, a home game, and (likely) one road game.  It's not even close.  Go Niners.

Do you not understand that we PLAY the Saints twice? If we are going to win the division, we're going to have to beat them anyway. It makes more sense to have an insurance policy in place, in the event that we don't win the division.

If nothing else, a 49ers loss is a great insurance policy. Remind me to never go into business with any of you fugers.

The game is really win/win either way for the Panthers thanks to the win over the Niners. If NO wins, we stay a game back and gain breathing room in the wildcard race. If San Fran wins, we stay ahead in the wild card race and tie up with NO.

Depending on us beating New England of course.

you won't have any problem there.

the best insurance is for us to win the division. for that to happen, not only do we have to win all our games, the saints have to lose a game or two...preferably two while we lose only one more.

we don't want the saints to win it. we don't want to play any away games in the playoffs if we get in, esp. not for our first game.

i want whoever wins the wildcard game to come here.

Would never pull for the Saints, never.  Even if Al Queda had a team and played the Saints, no way in hell.

It's division or bust for me, the wildcard picture is too blurry so fug it.  Win every game, win the NFCS, host playoff games in Charlotte.  That's all that should matter.

Exactly. If we win the division we have a shot at the 2nd seed, maybe first if seattle blows a tire. Aiming for a wildcard at this point is too low. I'd prefer to have some margin of error. Besides I want a playoff game at home so we can finally wash the stank of the 08 debacle out of our stadium. Screw the niners we've already beaten them head to head and I doubt they beat the Seahawks

if we win the division it is CRUCIAL to beat out the lions for the 2nd seed. if we get the 3rd seed, we'll either play the saints or 9ers in the wildcard game. whereas if we get the wildcard and the saints beat the lions for the 2 seed, we would either go to detroit or dallas/philly whoever wins the east. not sure about you guys, but if we cant get the 2 seed, i would almost rather play in dallas or philly in the first round then have to play either the saints or 9ers at home. just a way easier matchup IMO
