In what could have been a glorious day for the Panthers organization, instead they are left desperately looking for anything that went right.

 

On with the grades...

 

 

Offense

 

From the gameplan to the execution, it all was severely lacking. Cam could not find open receivers. Brandon Lafell made key mistakes in receiving and blocking.  Byron Bell was beaten badly on too many occasions to count.

 

Overall, a very poor performance. Lets hope they all got it out of their system.

 

Offensive Grade: D-

 

Defense

 

Allowing over 30 points is never good. Pressure was never really put on Brees until it was too late. It seemed the Panthers gameplan was to drop back in a zone and dare Brees to beat you with his arm. An odd strategy to say the least. The result? One of the worst defensive performances in recent memory.

 

Defensive Grade: D-

 

Special Teams

 

Not much impact in this game. The missed field goal was bad, but really were the Panthers going to win this game with field goals? Heck no. Riverboat.... Come back!

Coaching

 

This game had no chance of being won before the Panthers even set foot on the field. Looking at what the Panthers tried to do and the inability to adjust and create some positive plays was too much for any player talent to overcome. The Panthers were badly out coached by the Saints.

 

That is really all you need to know.

The tempo was set with those first two scores, we needed touchdowns and bad play calling by Shula gave us 6 instead of 14. Overall a bad game for the team all around. I honestly expected New Orleans to come out strong after being embarrassed in Seattle and faced with a division game, sad that Shula and McDermott couldn't adjust to the Saints. Good game to the Saints, can't wait to see you guys in two weeks outside of that dome.

after tonight i cannot understand how there is still anyone standing to support brandon lafell.

he gets a pass because most fans, like myself, watch most games on televsion.

it is not until you see him in person that you can truly comprehend how worthless brandon is as a receiving threat. he is never open.

Shula has gotten worse over the course of the season IMO. It's like he knows now our defense is capable so he calls plays to not make mistakes and to stay safe...the personnel we put out there and the time share in the backfield boggles my mind. Clearly Tolbert should be our guy.

it is not until you see him in person that you can truly comprehend how worthless brandon is as a receiving threat. he is never open.

 

Except for the times when he was open.

      To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .

      The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown.
