Pass Rush

The Aints o-line isn't that good. Did anyone else see how many times they held us? I'm not blaming this loss on no calls because brees DID torch us and Bell couldn't block a thing last night, however I felt like everytime we would get close to getting to brees they would literally tackle us. I even saw one instance where they literally laid on Hardy after tackling him to the ground.

Kinda figured this would happen in New Orleans too. Just as I predicted a Katrina reference would appear (came up when brees broke record for pass yards, which made me lol and smh).

So was our pass rush just not there last night, or was a lot of it because of the no calls?

They held us.  And we were anemic.  And they were protecting a QB who, while not a speedster / runner has superhuman pocket awareness and knows when / how to get rid of the ball fast or slide enough to avoid pressure when it is there.

No they aren't all-stars but they are good enough for what they need to be.

I'm not sure I buy the holding argument. I think our guys just got outplayed for whatever reason. If I had to guess, I'd say Johnson's injury held him back and Hardy's pass rush is hit and miss anyway. The thing I'm concerned about going forward was the lack of interior pass rush that we've made a living on this season. Maybe those young guys are wearing down.

Holding on nearly ever passing play can make almost any four man pass rush look bland and weak.

We blitz more and Brees probably burns us even worse than he did,  since Brees always seems to have a million safety net dump-offs readily available in case of blitzes.

Refs rarely ever call em for holding in the Dome.     It's why in Seattle,  you didn't see nearly as much holding from them,  because they knew that kind of stuff doesn't fly away from the Dome.     This is nothing really new though.   The pats are the same way at home.   Pats Oline holds on nearly every passing play,  and rarely gets a flag thrown on them at home.       Pats rarely get a flag thrown on them on the road also though,  so I guess that's a bad example.

It appeared like Hardy was doing the fire drill alot.  You know when you Stop, drop and roll.  I think players wanted to play hard

but ended up over running on some plays.  I saw that there was alot of non holding calls on the Saints o-line, but some of our

flailing about on the d-line came also from the Saints using the Panthers own momentum against themelves like a judo move.  It

was a sad sight seeing Panthers d-linemen falling all over each other like that.  I was expecting some hits on Brees and a turnover or two.  We ended up with zilch.   Hopefully, they got the bad game-itis out their system so so we can see better play here on out.

Please don't see this as flame-bait...I'm definitely not trolling, although after last night I'll certainly understand the replies I'm sure I'm going to get to this.  It's just an outside observation.  Why do you think it is that such a seemingly high percentage (compared the other fan bases in the NFC South, anyway) of the members of Panther Nation have such a persecution complex?  By that I mean why does the perception hold among those members of the Bucs, Falcons, and Saints boards that I've chatted with that there is a higher percentage of Panther fans than there is of the fans of the other teams that seem to have this deep-seated feeling that they're always being singled out for unfair treatment?

Clearly, this isn't an indictment of the vast majority of a fan base; many posters on this board make it a point to dissuade those of whom I'm speaking from seizing on convenient but suspect excuses.  And it's by no means restricted to Panther fans.  I'm sure I could have found more than one poster on the Saints board last week complaining about Saints receivers being manhandled throughout their routes by Seahawk DBs.  But for the most part the posters took the same attitude as the Saints broadcaster who said even if the DB tackles the receiver with the ball on the way, it's not interference unless it draws a flag--so you as a unit do whatever you can until you can't get away with it anymore.  Sort of like the Panthers DBs last night, who clearly were drilled with game tapes from the Saints-Seahawks game.  Grab the jersey, slap at the arms, hook the waist...if you're being held as the ball's on the way, it's up to you as the receiver to learn how to nudge that arm off of you if it's not going to be called.  You guys should recognize that--Steve Smith's been a master of it forever now.

No, what I'm contending is that the reputation around the rest of the division, which is probably only based on the sure-fire appearance after a loss of posts like the above and threads like "the hit that could end Stewart's career", is that there are way too many Panther fans who find it impossible to admit when their heroes are beaten that it might have been just that--they were beaten.  Like the Saints were just flat out beaten last Monday night.  There always seems to have to be some nefarious reason..."the referees stole the game from us...the other team played dirty and cheated...the league just doesn't want us to win".  Again, let me repeat in the strongest terms, those posters are definitely the outliers, and it's clear that more level-headed posters make efforts to police the wildest "conspiracy theory" posts.  For example, the vast majority of posts on the "Stewart injury" thread make pains to point out that when a big RB drops the shoulder to run you over about all you have left as a DB is to go low.  But there must be a reason that even the Falcons board (where sometimes it seems you have to prove you're a jerk to register) members feel there's more whining after a loss here than elsewhere in the South.  And clearly the Saints board has it's own share of idiots.  Oddly (or maybe not so oddly), I find the Bucs board to have the most reliably level-headed posters of all.

Well, go ahead and start the indignant reactions.  Or not.  I understand either way.  I'd have been fighting the urge to call any Seahawk poster an ass if he'd come to the Saints board last Tuesday and posted a similar "diatribe" as I've done here...but would have been just as unsurprised to see it followed by a short post directing him to get lost and then no more references to the post.  The intention was more to explain a reason behind any unwarranted poor treatment legitimate Panther posters may get on the other teams boards than anything else.

Good luck this week, and see you guys in two.

Anytime you start a statement with "please don't see this as..." or "I don't mean to sound like a..." it's  likely that you are going to come across exactly like you are trying to avoid sounding like. For example I don't mean to stereotype, but Saints fans seem a bunch of uneducated cousin fugers. Also, please don't see this as an insult, but you're pretentious cock gobbler.

Anyways, see you in two weeks buddy.

Hmm.  Started right out with the classy response I expected, did we?  Good work.  As I should have mentioned in that post (which was way too long already) unlike other team's message boards there is practically no way to participate on this board as a visitor without being jumped by multiple posters.  It's like some of you guys have that victimization thing so inbred that you see everything short of Panther ball licking as a vicious attack.  But please don't see this as an insult, of course.

And "you" won't see "me" in two weeks or in any amount of time, "buddy"...the two teams we respectively support will play, but neither your silly little ass nor mine will have anything to do with the outcome of the game.  Unless you're planning on suiting up and playing in the secondary...which come to think of it might give your guys a better shot.

Sometimes, the truth isn't classy. There are other teamers that post here and aren't berated anymore than the regulars, hell one of our mods is a Seahawks fan. You show up AFTER your team wins to discuss the game. What the did you expect? Even Falcon fans get that they are going to be insulted. If you want insightful and friendly discussion, show up prior.

The see you in two weeks was an attempt to lessen the sting of a "Please don't take it as.." comment like you did. Really I couldn't give a fug less if never you post here again.

    • I made it about 5 minutes, dude seems pretty insufferable.  But if you watch him through, even with a clean pocket his mechanics and footwork seem different on almost every throw.  Some he has a wide footbase and doesnt plant his foot, others he does the hop throw.  That has to get cleaned up for any consistency
