Pat Kirwin says we don't need to change that much to win this week

I was listening to Pat Kirwin talk about the game this weekend and he said the Panthers don't have to change what they did on offense even though they scored only 13 points.  He said our first and second drives lasted for 22 plays combined which meant they weren't stopping us.  We stopped ourselves and settled for field goals.  On the third drive we run the ball for 15 yards and then start throwing and get stopped.  He said we need to run the ball and control the clock and we should be fine.

On defense we have to stop trying so hard to jam the receiver that we don't play good defense afterwards.  We need to pressure Brees and keep things in front of us.  They are going to score points but you beat them by limiting their opportunities and slowing them down so that they have to earn everything.  Take away everything deep and make them throw in front of us and stop the YAC.  Make them settle for field goals and we should win the game.

I'll save everyone the trouble.

Yeah re watching the game.. we missed a lot of jams.   I don't know how we fix it though.  You can't give the Saints receivers clean releases and we don't have the play making ability to run straight man for any extended period of time.  Seattle did a lot of dropping lineman into coverage.  Plus they do have the ability to play straight man.  Same with Rams..they actually have the secondary that you can play man and not expect to be torched.  Going to be interesting.

I think last game on defense we tried too hard to be the Seahawks and forgot we don't have the secondary they have. We need to be ourselves. On offense Chud I mean Shula needs better play calling in the redzone. We drive down the field with ease then we just go full retard.

thinking that field goals was a good idea was a bad idea...esp. against the saints.

it sent an early signal to the team that you didn't trust the offense or defense. and he did it twice.  that set the tone for the day.

we don't have to change much from what we do most weeks to win. what happened in new orleans was that we changed what we did back to what we used to do when we were losing.

In all honesty, the Offense troubles were in the redzone, just like last Sunday's game. Had the fieldgoals against the Saints been tds and the defense secondary weren't so laxed, and stopped Drew from throwing to whichever receiver of choice, the Panthers could have easily won that. Fix those small problems and Sunday's game can be the Panthers to win.

This team is very close to being a very strong contending team but they have isses they seriously need to handle before they get exposed. Remember the media isn't going to sit and disect this team and point out the weakness like they do with the more preferred teams. it up to the Panthers to not believe that there isn't anything wrong with their team simply because no one is making a big deal. They need to recognize their problems and fix them. Learn from the Houston Texans mistakes.

Also, judging from the Saints last two losses, getting to Drew early is the name of the game. Get him out of the out of his comfort zone means getting him out of the pocket and getting in his face.

Just the location, only change needed.

Truer words were never spoken.Playing on the road continues to be a problem for the Saints who are now 7-0 at home and 3-4 on the road, including only one win in their last five road games.

The Saints have averaged 18.4 points a game on the road compared to an average of 32.9 points a game at home,a trend that I hope continues Sunday against the Panthers.

Surprise! That is exactly what Coach Rivera has been saying. Funny that, huh?

I would add that our secondary and LB'rs in coverage must stay with their assignments. Do not watch Brees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NFL on XM is definitely NOT worth the price for most of us, but it depends on how desperate you are. The shows were excruciating to listen to, thats all I can say.

David Glen is still one of the few that I can listen to and never think to myself "this guy is a total idiot". Rome gets some stuff wrong but I like the pace of the show and the amount of info I get there, plus I dont listen often so it stays fresh. I cant stand how he refers to "clones", I will never get that. Me, you, everyone. . we're all capable of coming up with our own little intelligent solutions to everything. Im not a clone of poo. This rambling has been brought to you by "Razey is fuuuuuugged up time".

edit: oh yeah I remember why I was posting. . Kirwan and Miller were one of the few shows that was ok.

At times in certain games we do abandon the run. I was surprised that we actually established the run and was running in full power formations and D.Will was running hard. From 20 out, we really can pound it in. Idk what it is with us and the 3-4 down there, but that last TD we scored after the block punt that's how a redzone score supposed to happen. All runs pounding it in. No throws, no read option... none of that

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
