Ron Rivera's Status

Now that we have clinched a playoff berth and have a shot at both the 1&2 seeds in the tourny Rivera has fulfilled most everyone's checklist for remaining as our head coach. It's a forgone conclusion that he keeps his job obviously but the question is how do we handle his contract status? Do we reup his contract this offseason or do we let him go into the final year of his deal on a "do it again and well talk" approach?

I say the man has earned a new contract and should be our coach for the next 4-5 years. I don't do numbers so I'll let you guys guess at the size of his deal.

KEEP POUNDING!!

Yes. He's done enough to deserve an extension.

I wanted him gone last year and early this year, but he has rallied nicely and been willing to make the necessary changes in his coaching style. The players love him which is just an added benefit.

Still not 100% sold on Shula, but I like him a lot better than Chudzinski. He deserves to stay on as well, but I wouldn't be willing to make the long term commitment to him like I would with Ron. Maybe a 2 year deal.

lolz. sitting on the brink of a 12-4 season, #1 in the division and #2 in the NFC overall, and anyone would even consider firing the coach? WTF more do you want?

There were several people saying Super Bowl or fired. I find that a bit rediculous but whatevs. The man has passed the test with flying colors, just curious to see how far the pendulum has swung the other way.

There are people who say all sorts of stupid things. That doesn't mean they deserve being part of an intelligent conversation.

I expect him to have a new contract in the off season.

We keep him and we sign him to a new deal imo. Changing coaching staffs every few years is a setback. Ron has turned the corner and the players love him.

Shula however still calls some shitty plays at times. Several calls yesterday and almost every game where I usually say wtf. The thing is though Cam likes shula and I guess that means alot behind the scenes.

True but the vast majority of people here said playoffs or bust. I was one of them. My main question is how do we handle this deal and when?

The fact that any of these dumb thread still exist must mean he just might be too Hispanic for some...no matter the record.

Bill Cohwer is the perfect blend of hispanic for those posters: 0%

On pace for 12-4 with the best defensive and two of the best offensive seasons ever in the history of the Panthers under his watch..

"Is it still good enough?" <====with all due respect.. STFU..

See with Rivera we became competetive from day one. We simply had a lack of talent on two of the three phases of this team. Under Rivera in the first two season we lost games bc the defense was unable to ever get turnovers or off the field.

Special Teams and defense are loaded now..the secondary is the only unit needing any kind of talent immersion...but not an emergency type of need.

In the Saints game the defense and special teams carried this team when under Chud it was the offense carrying the team to mask the poor defensive unit and special teams.

One more season of addressing OL and WR CBs and complete...

Coach of the Year if we win the division....and he will be the best, most likable coach we have ever had.

He's making about 2.8 million a year right now... I'd go 3 years, 10.5 million or so. This gives him a solid raise and 2 more years to prove himself, and if the Panthers consistently perform then it's also a short window to negotiate a bigger-money, longer-term extension.

Rivera has met the challenge. Everyone said playoffs or go home. He has grown as a coach and after beating the Aints,

he has earned an new contract. If I was Mr. Richardson, I would give him a three year contract now as a Christmas present.

Remove all doubt about next year and the rest of this season is his present to the fans ! Wish all the best for Smitty

and give him a shot at a ring this year. Keep pounding.

I think I have learned that it takes about 3 years to get used to the HC seat. . . if you have it takes that is.

He had no offseason in year 1 so he has accomplished it with less time actually. 2.8 seasons.

Seriouly if anyone thinks getting a new coaching staff in here will improve the team your crazy.

    • We agree here dawg. I'd love for Bryce to succeed as would all huddlers. I have not seen a single huddler hate Bryce for anything other than his play on the field / potential / skillset. He hasn't gotten any of the irrational hate having nothing to do with football that Cam got. And yeah I understood going into this season with Bryce again as there weren't a ton of options, but man we missed the fuging mark on upgrading at backup QB with someone who could actually push Bryce. Bryce had zero pressure on him with a 100% washed up Dalton being the only other NFL caliber QB in the system. That absolutely needs to change this offseason. Ideally with an actual starter upgrade but that seems extremely unlikely due to not having many FA options and a bad draft. But at the very least with someone like you mentioned, young/upside and/or day 3 pick in the draft.   Another note, we have a top paid and top performing OL, great young talent at WR incl. likely OROY, great RB group, average all around TE group, offensive coach with creativity in the system and good play designs (poor situational playcalling but still I put out current offensive coaching staff over Shula who held Cam back for instance). Not the absolute best situation for a QB to be in, but still a very good situation around him. And yet we have a bottom 8 offense (6th lowest points scored). Imagine taking a victory lap for a QB leading his team to the 6th lowest points scored in the league and the 22nd highest passer rating (despite being asked to do less than many other QBs; i.e. Bo Nix who isn't great either and has a slightly lower passer rating but Sean Payton actually lets him try to throw the ball deep and has him throw significantly more than Bryce). Crazy
    • similar to Atlanta and the NHL.  Atlanta has lost two NHL teams (and lost a minor leaguer).  Now there's another coalition pulling together another proposal for Atlanta to get an NHL expansion. While I'd like hockey to be back in Atlanta 'cause hockey is fun, I am skeptical that it'll happen based on previous teams' experience here alternatively: similar to Atlanta hosting a Major Tennis Tournament in advance of the US Open every mid/late summer.  Aside from the fact that Atlanta is said to be the country's largest Tennis playing city (with both USTA and ALTA, along with a number of side leagues) - playing tennis outdoors in Atlanta summer is miserable *and* they had difficulty attracting players... ticket sales were not good. So the Atlanta Open closed after 14 years.  They just couldn't make it happen, even if for all intents it appears to be massive tennis interest in the surrounding area.
    • So I saw where Luke was doing that show parallel to the game. Whatever it was, statcast something something, knew it would be a good watch. I don’t get ESPN any more but that would be one of the about few things I would watch outside of games.     He doesn’t fool around on the radio broadcast.
