Best Nucleus - Defense

Here's an article comparing each team's nucleus of defensive talent. Despite being the top scoring D in the NFL with a ton of young talent they don't like our secondary. Whatevevs, they also assume we won't be able to reach an agreement with Hardy.

I'm a wee bit biased, but we're a little lower on the list then I think we should be.

By definition, shouldn't a nucleus just be a couple of players to build around rather than (more or less) entire defenses?  If that's the case, name me a scarier, more talented group of 5 young/developing or in-their-prime defensive players than Kuechly, TD, Star, Hardy, and CJ... and that's not even considering the potential that Short, Klein, Mitchell, and possibly even Addison have shown this year.

they ranked us lower because of the patchwork secondary. fair assessment IMO

Perfectly stated.

If we had a "prolific" DB on a long term contract the unit might be ranked higher. Sign Hardy and upgrade a DB the ranking jumps a couple spots.  I think the future is bright if you consider we have depth rotational guys in Short, and Klein.Just need to shore up the back part of that D.

Hope we can keep Captain and Mitchell.  I like Flo but he's getting pretty up there in age.

Our needs haven't changed and either way we're still in good shape for the draft I think as long as we don't fug up our picks.  We need a corner, a #1 WR, and some o-line talent.  Thankfully the draft is supposedly deep in all those areas.

We definitely somehow need to retain Hardy also.

    • I think i like the Oregon Safety better
    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
