Edmund Kugbila

He has the right size and lower body to stand up against bull rush and with long arms he can engage blocker head on .....He was pretty nasty at run blocking in college and should translate to the NFL. With a proper off-season conditioning and OTA he should be ready to bulldoze lanes for the RBs.

Not all draft picks pan out. If he can't get on the field next year he's probably not going to. That said I think Kenjon Barner ends up getting a lot more playing time next year.

Please God no!! 7 yards on 6 carries and looked worse than that, the guy is too small.

I think Kug is a gem. He's got great size and a whole off season to work on getting accustomed for NFL speed.

For those bashing Barner, Gettles specifically mentioned him in the press conference and went along the lines of saying that he was essentially a 2014 draft pick (paraphrasing). Methinks they have a plan for him...so get used to him being on the roster.

Kugzilla will be a beast, gettleman knows hog mollies and this guy is one, I think in a way it could be a blessing sitting out his first year, learning his mental reps and getting coached up by his coaches and team mates, learning is valuable and he's had time to do this, I expect him to be set and raring to go full speed next season he will be hungry to play after missing out this year.

Edmund Kugbila certainly sounds like a project. Let's just hope his strengths will over shadow his weaknesses and the coaching staff can mold him into an NFL lineman.

Analysis

STRENGTHS: Wide frame with one of the largest wingspans in the draft to swallow defenders. ... smooth lateral shuffle and flashes the mobility to get to the second level and out on the perimeter. ... extends and strikes with heavy hands to latch and redirect defenders. ... stout anchor and tough to move from his spot. ... has developed both physically and mentally, showing a strong aptitude for the game. ... starting experience at both RG, RT (22 RG, 10 RT). ... leader on team's 2012 National Title run.

WEAKNESSES: Disproportioned frame with some bad weight on his body. ... will overextend and get caught lunging. ... streaky upper and lower body technique. ... bad habit of stopping his feet, struggling to reset. ... allows blockers into his chest and needs to consistently keep rushers at bay and show same effort on each play. ... needs to improve his patience, vision and eye discipline. ... too passive at times, needs to develop a more nasty temperament. ... lacks ideal experience against top competition.

I think that's a little hasty. Barner seems like a kind of guy that needs a stout line blocking for him and needs to get isolations in space. Could be a weapon if we can somehow develop some screen plays.

he did take a risk, star didnt drop to 14 for nothing.  gettlemen bet the bank that star was fine and there was nothing wrong with his heart. he guessed right. he also thought short was a first round pick and what do you know, both star and short made the all rookie team.

Very good point.  However, we had him in for a few physicals and had him checked out, but there is always the scare and the fact that others may know something you do not.  Clausen, for example, had a first round grade.  Hurney jumped on him after Minnesota and Kansas City---desperate for QBs---passed twice.
