Graham - Saints updated...a grievance may be filed

Captain Morgan

exactly. if im Brees, im in Loomis office everyday asking him to make sure we pay my young, stud TE.and pay him good. i know it is a business, but this guy deserves every amount of money he gets. he has bailed out that offense on numerous occasions and is a match up nightmare.

Brees willing to give up some of his big money??

he should fight the TE tag because of how much time and production he has had split out at WR. he has a legit case.

The Saints looked at how many plays he was out wide. It's something like 49%-51% so that he doesn't have more plays split out and they won't have to use the WR tag on him. Would suck to be him.

I bet that was intentional--don't laugh.  They knew his contract situation.

My guess in NO.

Not only do the Saints have to figure out how to get under the cap, but they have to do it and still figure out some way to re-sign tight end Jimmy Graham.

Whatever I can do to help this team, if they want to come to me and extend me even further, that'd be great," Brees said. "Listen, there are so many possibilities as to what can happen here. Let's just let this offseason start. It's what, today's the second day of it unfortunately. We all wish it wasn't, but whatever helps this team win and puts the best team on the field."

Notice that Brees said he'd be willing to extend his contract to save the Saints some money next season, not take a pay cut. Brees is set to count $18.4 million against the Saints salary cap in 2014 and then $26.4 million and $27.4 million in the two seasons after that.

"As far as our team, I know that our team is going to spend whatever they... I don't think ours has, ever since I've been here been, in a situation where they're not going to do what they feel like they need in order to field the next team," Brees said. "So within cap constraints with whatever they feel like they need to do, for me, I signed a six-year ($60 million) deal when I first got here. I'm two years into a five-year deal ($100 million) and hopefully I can play that out and sign another deal and continue to play this game even longer."

I've seen reports he played over 60% of his snaps from WR. If he gets tagged, it will go to arbitration and he'll be designated a WR.

Graham has a good argument about being classified as a receiver.

Pro Football Focus produced a graphic that shows how often New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham has been used as an in-line tight end this year (105 snaps), and how often he’s lined up out wide or in the slot (a combined 166).

He is lining up almost 50% more at WR than TE.  If it walk, talks and smells like a duck, then it is probably a duck.

I read where they would split the difference betweem TE n WR if agreeing to a tag. It happened to another player.. Its all blurry.. It was on PFT like a month ago.

Ths would be a better, more informative post otherwise.

Also Brees said he would restruture for more years if it helps the cap. Aka help sign Graham.

Regardless this will kill the team from adding much to improve their defense..which is awesome bc they are still converting personnell to Ryan's scheme.... Of course this means somehow they sign Gaham and Revis to 2 15 million per year contracts.
