Deangelo Williams = Barry Sanders?

I heard this interesting comparison on the NFL network recap for today's game.

I hadn't though about it, but that run, and the one he is famous for in college are eerily reminiscent.

I don't know how valid of a comparison it was. I only started paying attention to the NFL at the end of Sanders' career. Does it hold water? And even if it doesn't, what do you all think? We have one of the top 5 RBs in the league?

Yeah, one season as the main ground man on an all around good team is not enough to make comparisons to one of the most consistantly productive backs in league history. He definately has the potential to be one of the greats, but he just hasn't put in the minutes to be Sanders quality yet.

Now....the steve smith/jerry rice comparisons start to hold water more and more each year though....so it would be interesting if in the eyes of history it does turn out that we had dopplegangers for two of the best offensive players ever at once.

Don't compare Barry Sanders and DeAngelo. DeAngelo is much the better back.

It is not even close. Now, I am not saying DeAngelo is MORE TALENTED. As far as moves and the ability to make people miss in the open field, Barry may have been better. But not by much.

You can't simply look at stats. Yes, Barry Sanders runs of 3, 2, minus four, minus 10, and plus 60 etc. might equal DeAngelo. But Sanders had NO power. He was ALWAYS taken out at the goal line for stronger runners.

Furthermore, he never followed his blockers and frequently left his quarterback in third and ten positions.

While it is a bit too early in DeAngelo's career to make comparisons, Barry Sanders averaged 4.99 ypc. Deangelo is over 4.9. He has gone from 4.1 to 5.0. and this year he is unconscious at 5.5.

Why do some of you morons live in the past. DeAngelo does not have to do this for five more years to be as good as Barry Sanders. He is only going to get better. It is obvious to anyone with eyes that he does things no one else does. Can you fluke your way into the best stats in the league. I think not.

Yes, Barry was great. Maybe the greatest ever in terms of moves. But anyone who would pick him to start over DeAngelo would be crazy, if you had to have only one back. Besides, DeAngelo's moves are just as good, or virtually so, as Barry Sanders. More and more comparison's will be made between the two as DeAngelo gets more exposure.

Stop with the idiocy that you can't compare him to Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson. Ridiculous. I told all of you at the beginning of the year that he was the best back in the league. Stats back that up. And he does not fumble.

Okay, guess I had a four year advantage over you by watching him at Memphis. You are watching the greatest running back in NFL history. Can you call him that now? Of course not.

But, as I said eight weeks ago, you will. In about two years.

    • Looking to middle Denver / Minnesota.  Hopefully can cash out both before game ends and make some money on each.
    • Forgive me and all, I think I seen rapport talk about Willis market will be 30+, which is insane. He said many teams are interested and he impressed with his play last yr. I cannot believe some team is going to give 35 per year along with 50 in guarantees. Just hit the market at the right time, the draft sucks after the top guy and current FA looks poor given Jones is with Indy...it was just leave Willis......*tua, Watson, Murray, smith, cousins, _______ should be ava tho...but teams seem down on half of them, even as min type of deal. medical wise tua should retire, cuzins haaaassss to be showing his age soon, right?? Watson, when was his last NFL pass in a game; 2-3 years ago??
    • I swear..... this is RICH coming from a guy talking about cuming down some random #6 womans throat while you were married to Angie, the wife who gave you children.  Steve talks about being a 'man" and all that stuff, the husband of the woman whom Steve sent all those lewd text messages called you on face time. Steve started crying like a BITACH and ended the call after a bitach voiced "Im sorry". fug Steve Smith, Im shocked he's not in jail and Im done with him getting career as a world class asshole. Go enjoy your empty home and I hope Angie takes ALLLLL your money and time away from your kids. God forbid Steve influences them with his "Im from the street" mindset.  Angie and John Kasay helped steve form being Steve, what a joke. insane levels of irony form this Steve weirdo that thinks he's super smart and people owe him all sort of special treatment when he is a giant turd inside and out.
