Miles Austin to the Panthers?

Good lawd look at that contract the Cowboys gave him. It could always be worse guys...

At the time he was coming off back to back 1K seasons, but the real reason it was crazy was because it was done in the uncapped year. They thought they could pull one over on everyone (along with the Skins and D. Hall) and off a crazy contract that paid most of its money during that one year and not have to worry about the cap moving forward.

This is why they were punished with a lower Cap than the rest of the team. Its also why Austin got PAID.

If it were just about ability while on the field, I would be all for it. However, I can already picture the day one report from training camp that he's got a hamstring issue that he'll be working through for the next 7 months. So, let someone else worry about that problem.

Ah, I forgot about that. Hey, it's Jerry Jones, what else can we expect.

I guess the key word there is Solid. Austin was an after after thought on his own team behind Dez and Whitton and the young guys that were stepping up. And while Nicks wasn't an after thought he just didn't play up to par.

Nicks could be elite and maybe getting home sparks that but I looked at Austin as an also ran that people were over looking but who would also be a bigger upgrade for a team like us. And maybe coming in and playing a bigger role will be what draws someone like him who went from being the man for one season to "meh"

Is he an upgrade over anyone we have right now, hell yes he is.

But, Austin is older and I dont believe that he's the missing piece here in Carolina. I see Austin as a no.2 receiver, not a true no1. Have always thought that he was an overrated receiver in a high power Dallas offense.

Id rather go Maclin or Britt over Austin.

It's a pretty good WR free agent class this offseason. Let's just hope that Gman will take advantage and help address this need (WR) through both FA and the Draft.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
