The Stewart Situation (I know right? Never been discussed before)

Question:

If you were GM and you're sitting in Gettlemans shoes cap & player wise, would you cut Stewart in June and just take the cap hit?

I ask because I think he's great...but it's a waste having him and his contract here. Think about it this way: we cut stew and Godfrey in June and CG's savings cover the JS cap hit. I know that's not how it works but I think we need to just ditch Stewart. We're not trading him barring a restructure and we don't need him to get to 12-4.

On the unquestionably sound and well-researched afternoon program on WFNZ, the babbling moron (Mark or Marc?) personality stated, "I have heard from players that Stewart is considered to be very soft."

Still, we will probably cut DWill and Stew's fate will be determined this year.  Why pay him while he is injured and cut him when he gets healthy?

I thought the idea was to not have our franchise quarterback be our leading rusher again. There are people who actually believe the solution to our run game is to cut our one RB that consistently sees the field? There are no guarantees that Stewart will ever be the same again.

I don't think either will get cut this year.

I wouldn't, no. I'd wait until after preseason and see if he a) makes it through healthy or b) still has enough left to play after so much nagging injuries. I wouldn't just go ahead and get rid of him now and take the hit, that puts yourself in a lose-lose situation.

You can't get any savings from cutting Stew this year. It will actually really hurt us to do that.

This is not even a topic with the way his contract is written.

No need to even talk about this.

Thread end.

You missed the point. Given its a hit and not something that saves money, would you still do it. Just asking the question.

If anyone gets cut it will be Dlo.

Why? DWill has done a lot more in the past few seasons then Stewart has and he has stayed healthy as well. Who would you get to replace Dwill? Barner wouldn't help much. The guy gets tossed around like a rag doll when he gets hit and Stewart can't stay healthy anymore. So releasing him would not be an option neither.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
