Mitchell to the Steelers

Step 1:  Denial

This would be Step 2 & 3:  Anger and bargaining

and finally Steps 4 & 5:  Depression and Acceptance

Not gonna lie, this made me LOL, but you know and I know that 25 million was way too much for this dude and there's no way in hell I would have condoned giving this type of contract to him - especially with the amount of other holes we need. Don't forget about Godfrey coming back.

You guys are so dumb.  Do you want Mitchell at 5 million a year or do you want a quality WR?

Our defense is good enough and we won't see a drop off at all.  With that front 7 Godfrey and Lester are going to do just fine.  The defense doesn't need much help.

The offense on the other hand?

Ahhhhh, I remember the days before Gettlemen when we do overpaid players.  Them were the days.

All that said, I hope Mike tears it up for years to come.

yea i would have never guessed someone would pay him 5/yr.   it's a loss for us though, i would not just brush it off like losing him is nothing either.  he had could chemistry with the rest of the defense and that's what hurts the most.

I agree about letting Mitchell walk for that kind of money, but disagree about the "no drop off" thing. Godfrey fuging sucked before his achilles exploded. Now he'll be horrible while running slower. Lester tried and was starting as an UDFA so not his fault, but he was picked on pretty consistently when he subbed in. He couldn't hold Mitchell's jock and Mitchell's actual ability was pretty average.

We're taking a step back at Safety

Big mistake. Man, this is a HUGE mistake.

The Steelers don't spend recklessly, especially on defense... they know what they're doing and they just signed our starter (and IMO, the heart and soul of our defense) to be their starter for the next 5 years on a bargain of a deal.

I keep seeing people write Mitchell's accomplishments off as a product of playing here on a 1-year deal and behind a superior front seven... problem is, you're not giving him his due. He earned a bigger contract because of how he played. He did a lot of the dirty work and was single-handedly responsible for some huge game changing turnovers and hits.

Like I said before, it took years to find him, and then we just let him walk like they grow on trees, while the Steelers benefit with his play for the next 5 years, which is worth every penny and then some. We should've paid him... good luck finding a comparable replacement.

We will regret this.
