Nicks reps and Panther reps talking.....

I put him there because we really just don't have anyone else. Unless you're willing to give McNutt or King a chance.

I feel like Rice would be a good 3-4 option until we know he can get healthy and stay healthy

While I think Smitty would be great in the slot, he could be our #2. Either him, a rookie, or Rice/some other FA WR. (Jones?) I don't have any idea how McNutt or King would turn out, but if the team trusts one of them enough to play #2 then I'm all for it. I believe Rivera and Gettleman are amazing at scouting talent and getting the best out of players, so I'd have nothing against King or McNutt if it had to come to that. But if it came to that, I'd expect some help at o-line and/or secondary.

Trade Hardy to Raiders for two 1sts. Watkins at 5 and Cooks at 28. Sign Nicks and trade Smitty for a 6th. Oh Lawd.

One can only dream... Though, I wouldn't trade Smith in that scenario... I'd pass on Nicks and stick with Watkins Cooks and Smith. But Watkins is pretty much out of the picture for us.

rivera and gettleman have been amazing at scouting talent on DEFENSE.  6 rookies starting last year shows that.  as stated in another thread, not so sure about offense.  maybe we need to give them time before we decide.

Rivera's been amazing on defense, Gettleman's been great at both. But yeah, you're right.

Unless we trade Hardy.

Very unlikely, and I bet even if we did to Oakland for that pick, we'd try to take either Robinson or Matthews at tackle if they were available.

True I just put Smitty in the slot to finish off his career. But I could see him starting at j#2 if we sign Nicks and decide to keep him.

i dont know how we are going to swing smitty's cap hit next year and the year after plus signing nicks, then have to pay cam and luke the following year when we just handed hardy 13.1 million.

this stuff is just not adding up

we wont be paying for smittys next 2 seasons if hes cut.

At this point in his career, he'd have to take a 1 or 2 mil per year to fill that role and I don't think he will unfortunately. Can't say I'd blame him whatsoever.

Next year we clean house in the running back department. Got a feeling CJ may also be on the move.

I was responding to the posters who were saying hicks and smitty

gotcha. yeah it would be nearly impossible to carry both contracts at the same time. only way smitty stays if he takes a cut...not a restructure. people dont realise that money will go to lock up the future of this team. Cam and Luke.

    • I see progress and improvements. We aren't the same team we were even at the beginning of this year. You want to harp on the past while I am all about the present and future. Do I know thinks are going to be great moving forward? Actually I don't but I prefer to look at the good instead of the bad. Since he is surely going to be the QB the rest of this year barring injury, I am going to root for him to succeed instead of fail. I always said if we are going to finish at 500 for the year I prefer we win at home since I will be there and want to see wins and crying opposing fans like the cowboys. So far mission accomplished. Now we have to show we can win on the road.
    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
