King and McNutt wont be punchlines for long.

the author writes:

"Though it’s still not crystal clear, general manager Dave Gettleman does have a plan for his team at receiver."

and it quotes McNutt as saying this about the plan at WR by the guys in the front office: “They're just not going to go all straight young guys. There’s going to be guys they pick up."

This should be enough for 60% of the posters on here to STFU every time we don't sign some bum ass FA.

Could someone help me out by explaining why King and McNutt, who couldn't see action on a team that boosted the 28th ranked passing attack, is supposed to be better than the WRs they could not beat out?

1. It takes WRs a bit of time to adjust to the NFL

2. They weren't born knowing the play book.

3. When you are winning, you do not change the lineup

Based on their inability to get reps so far my guess is they are complimentary depth players at best. Hope is not a strategy. Wish these guys the best but I don't think the answer is currently on our roster.

I disagree.  They needed to learn the plays, develop chemistry.  They were rookies drafted late--rough route runners. They needed time with proehl.  We got them because they are developmental players-

If the Panthers had gone 7-9, you would have seen more of them.

They are not going to be #1 or even #2 probably, but there is a place for players like this in the rotation.

this. many times young players who are not drafted in the early rounds simply do not get the burn or opportunity for various reasons. doesn't automatically mean they are worse than the guys ahead of them.

    • Yeah. How he shows up in training camp with a year of NFL training and nutrition will tell us all we need to know.  Side note... how has Bryce still managed not to find the weight room?
    • I hope he finds his lane in year 2.  Now that we signed Walker, I'm really intrigued how Dan feels about the DL. Is there a piece there in R1 that presents value/BPA and fills a void for one of the spots w/ DB and Wharton.  I'll give Wharton another year to show us why he was signed here. With A'Shawn gone, I don't think BBIII is it.  Our edges are set and our LBs are balanced. Horn/Mike Jack and Moehrig will hold the secondary together. DB is, well...DB.  However, I think this is an area that is the biggest question mark right now. I see 1 of 3 spots that are locked and loaded for us. If we move to a 4 down front, I assume Phillips would slide down to be the additional linemen, but we still have questions about the other two spots in either scheme.  I'd feel better with a tradeback, but I do wonder how McDonald would do here. Maybe Woods....but McDonald really does peek my interest.  Or, can Jackson take that next step. The coaching staff speaks highly of him for what little he played. Here's hoping he stays healthy and comes into TC with something to prove. There's a spot to be taken, here's hoping he takes it.
