What Is It About Jordan Matthews That People Don't Like at 28?

It seems the majority is leaning towards either Cooks, Benjamin or OBJ with our first round selection. I know there are some that do want Matthews at 28, but for those that don't, I'm curious why. Not that OBJ, Cooks and Benjamin wouldn't look good in a Panther uniform next year, but I'm just asking because sometimes I feel like such a Matthews homer that I'm missing something.

His negatives are that he doesn't have as much upside as others (low ceiling), sometimes catches with his body too much and not a burner that can tear the roof off a secondary nor elite speed.

Most of everything I posted is already known, but was just curious of the non-Matthews fans what it is about him that turns you off.

The other three look like they are more of a playmaker than he is.  The two smaller guys can get separation, he will struggle with that.  Benjamin is a second rounder in my opinion also, but has a higher ceiling than the other 3.  JMO

I'm all for Matthews, but I just don't see the Panthers taking him.  They seem to have their focus on KJ or Cooks, or a top OT that falls to us.

I'd take Matthews before Cooks definitely, OBJ or Benjamin maybe.

Generally, he's not as explosive as the the rest.  His hands are rather suspect at times having a drop rate above average for college WRs.  Ability after the catch is lacking.  Good straight-line speed, but questions about if his agility is enough to be able to gain separation from NFL DBs.  Screens dominated the plays he ran and his YAC there was very good, but everything else were routes that allowed for high YAC where he was simply sub-standard compared to the other receivers.

 

He has a high floor but you have to wonder if he is already close to maxed out where you're basically getting what you see and there is room for little improvement.

It's just really hard to rank the crop this year.  I have no earthly idea who we end up with.

Add on the OTs like Lewan, Kouandijo, Turner (if we deem him an LT, he's worth a 1st imo), Moses, Ward and Pryor at S, Fuller, Verrett, etc.....it's a complete crap shoot at 28.

It really is a crap shoot that late in the first, hard to know who'll be there so it's more of a true BPA than picking earlier in the first

I just don't think he plays up to his timed speed, and I don't think he'll be good at separating in the NFL.

Not at 28, but I like Matthews. Cooks and OBJ are both much better, but Matthews is still talented. I'd say it's the combination of speed, size, hands, and YAC ability. He's a little good at everything. If we did happen to draft him at 28, I'd be alright with it. I'd be much happier with him then I would be with Benjamin.

According to whom? Still 43 days until the draft and we may not even bring our top guys in.

I am scared Turner is gonna be taken in the mid 2nd. Wouldn't be mad if DG snags him up at 28 and not take any chances.

I love Matthews and probally think bc he stayed for 4 seasons guys think he has closed to maxed out his potential.

Wonder if scouts view him like USC Robert Woods. A solid WR who is a mid tier career WR.

Beckham and Cooks have the one catch and 80 yrd TD. K Benjamin has the Elite size and Red Zone ability.

Matthews does run polished routes has good size and has proven success so I am a fan and would not hate it if he was on the roster. He would be a safer pick over a Cooks Imo.

I would so love for Houston to take Mack or Clowney and then trade back into the first with us for a QB.

 

First pick in the second and third would be nice.

 

Picking at the top and bottom of rounds 2 and three would produce some great guys
