NFC scout: Evans made Manziel / AFC Exec: Ebron, ASJ overrated.

Since we don't have anything really new on our front, I found this a little interesting.  It's interesting to get into the minds of the professionals.  Everything is anonymous, except for Gil Brandt's praise of Mike Evans, so there could be some jockeying going on here.  If the AFC personnel guy's opinion of Ebron is shared by others, then perhaps he will fall.

NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt, who was on hand for the event, had the highest praise for Evans, tweeting that Evans had the best hands he had seen since Calvin Johnson. The reactions to Evans' showing only reinforced the notion that he might be picked before Manziel...

One NFC scout apparently is much more impressed with Evans than Johnny Football, saying that Manziel has been the bigger beneficiary in the QB-WR relationship.

"In my opinion, (Evans) made Johnny Manziel, not the other way around," the unnamed scout told NJ.com "A lot of times, Manziel just ran around and threw it up for grabs, and (Evans) came down with it."

In addition to the scout's comment on Evans, an unnamed AFC personnel executive had some strong criticism for the top tight ends in this year's draft published in the NJ.com article.

Here's a look at what he had to say about North Carolina's Eric Ebron, considered the top tight end available this year, and Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who is listed No. 2 at tight end in NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock's positional top-five rankings.

» On whether Ebron is as good asTyler Eifert, the first tight end drafted last year (21st overall to theBengals):

"Hell no. He's OK. He's completely overrated, and he's a pain in the (butt). And don't ask him to block anybody, because he's not going to do it."

» On Seferian-Jenkins:

"He's more overrated and a bigger pain in the (butt) than the other guy. And he blocks like a wide receiver. I don't want any part of him."

When he says Ebron is a pain in the butt, he loses all credibility. Ebron is one of the hardest working, nicest guys out there. This guy is a douche

If you're correct, then it's a good point. I haven't even looked at Ebron because I figure he'll be gone regardless. So Ebron is an all-around good guy, huh? No off field issues at all? No diva-like complex (more so than usual)?  The old fart is just being an old fart, huh? Wonder who it is.

I dont think there's any question Evans made Manziel. He has great hands, but damn that boy's slow

4.5 is honestly very good for the big boy that he is .. 4.5 is great anywhere on the field ...

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
