Intent of the LT position

It is pretty much a given that 1st two rounds are normally starters. Third round are borderline starters. I believe OT will be in round one or two. They should start but not necessary on the left side. I could see a rookie coming in starting at RT and in a year or two move to the left.

Chandler was a practice squad player who played tackle, last year he was on the team as a G/T. It is feasible that he would battle whoever it is they put in at tackle. I am not saying he would win the spot but I think it is going to be fun watching Bell moving to his natural side, Chandler with a little LT experience and a 1st or 2nd Round OT battle it out in the next couple of months.

Didn't Gross start out on the right side?

Gross played his rookie season at RT, then I think he moved to LT in his second season.

About drafting a T to start at #28--I don't think there is one there.

First, Zack Martin has shortish arms and has been projected to be a potential guard. Of all the T's who could be there, he is the one I would take to start.  He reminds me of Sam Baker of the Falcons--nothing to write home about.  It would be hard to take a limited T (physically) when a Brandin Cooks or Calvin Pryor is sitting there.

Then the next name is Cyrus.  I am scared of him and he was overrated coming into the draft..  I watched his You tube stuff and was not impressed--2nd or 3rd rounder to me--before the knee stuff.

Then Morgan Moses must be the solution.  He was mostly a G and RT at Va.  He was 3rd team All-ACC.  He may have LT in him, but for some reason, I see some Bell in him.  RT.

To me, the best option is to wait.  I like Turner, Bitonio, and Hurst.  Will either start right away at LT?  Remember, Jordan Gross was the 9th pick and was a RT for a year.

Keep in mind that the Giants rarely took Olineman in any of the first 3 rounds over the dozen years that Gman was with them.  They obviously can pick out the players who can make it and those who cannot.

They typically took playmakers and DB's earlier than Olineman.

I suppose their thinking was that the fast, quick twitch playmakers and those that defend them are better at the top of the draft than those at the bottom.

Harder to find a sleeper DB or WR than it is to find a sleeper G or T.  Just sayin......

If I am not mistaken Beatty was taken in the 2nd by the Giants. Last year he was rated as the 32nd LT by Rotoworld and Manning found himself on his ass more than he was on his feet. He never was elite and they added Charles Brown this year.

Of the top 15 LTs  last year 11 were 1st round picks,2 were 2nd round picks , one was a 7th and one was an UDFA.

The point is not many people on earth have the physical make up of a LT.

I am not sure that OL is the area that I would copycat the NY Giants. If Chandler has those attributes then we have hit a home run and will be much better next year than I am anticipating. If Gman is wrong I will view it as a very serious mistake.

Like many I do not see that guy in the draft that can start day one. To me we should have paid the price and signed one of the FAs earlier.

This is just my opinion which does not mean much. I am not qualified to make those decisions but sometimes you get what you pay for.

I think your observations are dead on. I only see 3 pure LT prospects in the 1st. Zack Martin projects to be a better guard prospect than tackle.Moses project to be more of a RT but who knows.

Cyrus has the right size but has to many question marks. Turner may very well be our next best option unless Cyrus pulls a rabbit out of his ass and totally impresses at his pro-day. Still do not think he is a day one starter.

So maybe Rivera and Gman are correct in saying that our best option is on our roster. It may be the best option but that does not mean it is a good option.
