Gettlemagic: Slicing the fat off the cap with WR salaries.

I think Cam would probably just like to be able to throw to a legit #1 receiver.

I'm sure Cam would LOVE a Julio Jones or AJ Green or Megatron.

That being said, how many times over the last 3 years have you seen Cam miss a wide open target because he was staring at Steve Smith and forced it?

I've witnessed it personally enough times to at least give it a second thought, and it's happened A LOT.

Maybe it will truly be addition by subtraction. We'll only know when the season is underway, but it's something to consider in an offseason discussion at least.

Yeah he did lock onto Steve Smith some. But let's be completely honest about the situation that he has dealt with at WR since he's been here. His most reliable targets were Steve Smith and Greg Olsen (who obviously isn't even a WR), that stands to reason that sometimes he would lock on Steve Smith. Considering that outside of Smith and Olsen he's had receivers like Legedu Naanee, Louis Murphy, and Armanti Edwards to work with, even Lafell who would show flashes of brilliance would routinely flat out drop passes right in his hands.

Steve Smith is gone, the past is the past. We are in the now, and we desperately need to get a playmaker for our QB.

people keep forgetting cutting smith saved 10 million (cap&real) in 2015 and 12 million in 2016. that will sure help the luke/cam deals.

my only problem with the new WRs is; no long term answer. thats where where a early(rounds1-3) pick should solve. cloweny and avant should hold the hands king, mcnutt, and draft pick. then do something similar in 2015, sign a vet and draft a early stud.

smith DID demand cam throw him the ball, in which could have hurt the team. cam has gotten many times better at looking at each passing option, now no 36 year old guy will be face yelling at cam when others catch passes.

I've said this so many times I'm surprised I haven't been banned..

For what we want to do on offense, our current WRs fit the bill more than what he had last year. Two safety net guys for Cam, who will be where they are supposed to be and will 99/100 times catch the ball.

I have a feeling we will start seeing the surgeon, smart Cam really come out this season. Pick the defense apart without having to even look at his WR cause he knows where he will be every time, where as last season he had to throw it at his WRs due to their inconsistency rather than a spot the he determined by his reads.

They are going to have to get used to seeing the ball out of Cams arm too...he has a rocket launcher...

If we sign Dickson I'd be especially worried about him and Cams lasers.

Don't think it will be an issue for Cotchery. Played with Big Ben...whose game is a lot like Cam.

Joe Flacco has possibly the biggest rocket launcher of all.  We're talking arguably the strongest arm in the NFL.

They were moves to help us in the long run, not just this season. Even if we do have a drop off in production, the moves were necessary for the long run. But we better get Hardy signed long term to a reasonable contract or I'll be pissed.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
