We signed DeCoud!

lets hope all these guys just magically fit our system better than their previous teams.  lets also hope that PFF grades hold no value.  decoud, cason, harper, avant, dickson... all had horrible grades last year.  gross, wharton, ginn, smith, munnerlyn, hartsock...all had great grades.  certainly there is a lot of variance in the grades, but not pointing in the right direction.  heck, even the guy we re-signed, Cole, had a terrible grade.

you should delegate this task to dat alice, who will undoubtedly be happy to type up a document the size of a small nation's census report that tells how bad decoud is and how bad the panthers are for signing up

Does that come before or after the explanation that the Saints won the division last year (statistically)?

Last year, would you have said the same thing when we signed Ginn, a guy who could not crack the lineup in SF when Crabtree was hurt and Boldin was not on the roster? Did you bitch when we signed a backup S from Oakland? What did you think Cole would become? Did you think Florence, Mikell, Wharton and Scott were deadbeats? I am willing to bet that you did not celebrate when the Panthers signed undrafted free agents Robert Lester and Melvin White.

The roster blew then too.

But during the regular season, it didn't. 12-4

I was actually pumped about Ginn, Mitchell and Mikell. Definitely White and Lester. Speaking of Lester, I'd rather watch him then decoud. I am not saying decoud and Harper won't be good, I am just saying the panthers cut Steve Smith and signed to aholes from the saints and falcons.

It is April and I get the feeling we are not done at S.  DeCoud is better than Godfrey but could be less than Mitchell--we need to see how he responds with our front 7.  He is a ball hawk, and that bodes well for him--I look for us to draft (late) a S, maybe M. Huff.Same with CB and Cason.  I think he will do well here where he can face the LOS more.  Playing opposite Peterson meant he was getting a lot of game planning and attention.

I like the signing. I liked Mitchell too but lets face it, he wasn't that great in coverage. Yes, he did get a few picks, but anyone could have caught those ints. In fact, we prob would have lost that Miami game if Mike Wallace wasn't the target on that last effort heave. It is just a fact, hope Decoud gets the freedom to roam.

Our front 7, with Harper roaming around, is really a front 8. The CBs take the 2WR, everyone else plays zone.  DeCoude (sp) would be free to roam.

Ah, the possibilities. Our DBs are good enough to compete. On the cheap mind you. Yet, there is still room for a kid(s) to come in and push for playing time. Whomever steps up, usually plays.

In my mind we went from "letting the kids play" to "let the kids earn some time". All in two weeks. Oops on that one. At least on Defense that is no longer true. On Offense... at least we have wheedled our needs to line, and WR. Attack that weakness with a vengeance.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
