Zack Martin a Panther if he follows Moses (in draft) to Promise Land?

While most draftniks expect Zack Martin to be gone by the 20th pick of the first round or so, his "tweener" status (G/T) could cause him to drop.  Players that drop tend to have a characteristic or two that scares teams--Star's heart issue, for example. If Morgan Moses continues to climb boards (some were worried about him not being there at #28 and even mentioned trading up for him), it could push Martin down.  Throw in the fact that he has shortish arms, and it is possible he becomes the fifth tackle taken.  5 players at any position in round 1 is a stretch, so there is a strong chance that the 5th tackle in the draft is there at #28.

 

This is an article from the Observer a few months ago.  Take a look at the video.  Stranger things have happened.  This was covered to some degree in February, but perhaps it needs to be revisited in light of developments (Cyrus, Tiny, Moses, etc) at T.

The funny thing is that he is almost the exact same size as Gross, and has gotten high praise for his play.  So the only real problem is his arm length.  But is it a problem?  Like I said, he is about the same size as Gross, but he only has 32 7/8 inch arms.  However, Gross only has 33 1/4 inch arms...that's just over a quarter of an inch.  A negligible difference.

 

Jason Peters, who nobody has problems with his ability to play LT only has 33 1/8 inch arms.  And Joe Thomas, whom pretty much everyone here would kill for, has arms only 32 1/2 inches long...shorter than Martin's.

 

The point is that while ideally you would like to have a LT with longer arms, it's not a deal breaker.  It's more about technique and ability, which Martin has in spades.  So if he somehow fell to us, I think we would be making a Star-like sprint to the podium when it's our turn to pick.

He'd be better at guard and I just think there'll be better value at that pick. I'd take any of the top 6 WRs, top 3 CBs or top 2 TEs over him. And if Ealy's there I'd take him over Martin for the value. Would like for Lewan to fall.

Exactly...

 

Arm length this and bs that...if you can block you can block...if you can play football you can play football.

 

If anything the "new" NFL should be showing people that measurables are merely a starting point or a sort of base line to start judging from.

 

Trust me if you can play they'll pick you up and arms 2 inches longer than the next man isn't the difference between a starter and a backup.(or a HoF from a nobody)(GOATran a 4.7 or some poo?)

The fact I've heard so many experts say Martin would be likely a guard in the nfl puts me off, whilst we all watch college football and think we know our stuff, these guys do know what there talking about as most played the game, but saying that any guy we draft will have fors and againsts, nobody's perfect but id rather just draft the best fit for us, I prefer Moses over him personally.

Still could be a good prospect though.

 

He has great technique and feet---but yeah, I see him dropping to us and possibly by us.  The fact that he is not raw and reminds one of Gross could be enough though.

I didn't watch enough ND football to form an opinion, but if he's a legit NFL LT prospect I have no problem with it. Everyone gets a little (okay, A LOT) obsessed with measurements this time of year, myself included.

 

So do I. 33" arms is not that short, but his feet are so quick, he seems to make up for it.  I watched the Stanford and the Bama games and I never saw him off balance or bending.  He is a clinic on how to play the position.

      Can we get to 9-8?

      A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.

      I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.

      Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
