  2. Canales’ recipe for success is simple — slow the game down with long drives that keep the other team’s offense off the field. Long drives are built from short gains but short gains require more 3rd-down conversions. The Panthers are converting 37.5% of their third downs, which is average but not enough. As a result, they have attempted 21 fourth downs — the most in the NFL — and they’ve converted 71.4% of them, ranking 3rd among teams with at least 15 attempts. The Chiefs are second @ 80% and the Colts are first at 88% but the majority of their conversions are short yardage runs - not passes. The Panthers have had three big wins this season — against Miami, the Cowboys, and the Packers — those conversions have played a major role in each of those wins. Miami The Panthers trailed by 17 in the 2nd quarter, facing a 4th-and-5 at the Miami 48. Young threw a 21-yard completion and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced another 4th-and-5 at the Miami 33. Young delivered a 17-yard completion for the 1st down and they went on to score the winning TD. Cowboys The game is tied and the Panthers take over at their own 14 with 6 minutes left. Rico picks up 16 yards and Young converts two 3rd downs, gaining 37 yards, but misses on a third conversion. At the Cowboys’ 40, facing a 4th-and-4 at the 2-minute mark — knowing the Cowboys likely score if they get the ball back — Canales has them go for it. Young converts with a 7-yard pass putting them at the 33 in FG range. They then go on to kicj the game winning FG. Packers Young was 2-for-2 on 4th-down attempts. Then on the final drive starting from their own 19 with the score tied, Young converts two 3rd downs for 19 yards and Rico adds another 19 to move them into field-goal range for the win. In total, Bryce went 2-for-4 on 3rd downs and 5-for-5 on 4th downs on critical plays in those games. When the Panthers needed 1 yard against the Packers on their own 41 early in the game, Canales went to Young. - not Rico. When they needed 4 yards to keep the drive going at the 2 minute mark against the Cowboys he went to Young. Those throws weren’t empty-yardage completions; they were high-pressure, must-convert moments that directly contributed to all three wins. I keep reading how the Panthers are winning in spite of Young, that Canales doesn’t trust him and schemes around him. But these drives show the opposite: when the game is on the line, Canales has consistently put the ball in Young’s hands and Young has consistently produced in those moments. Some people do well in normal situations but crumble under pressure. Others can be uneven in normal times but produce when the presure is greatest. The question is who would you rather have in the playoffs. More importantly, who do you think Canales and the FO would want?
  3. I think is worse news for Tremayne. They need special teams help with him questionable. If T-Mac is down, XL, Coker, Horn, and Renfrow. No way Chisena gets meaningful snaps as WR, only on special teams.
  4. What? He stands out to me with a great motor and effort. He'll be fine Go watch that Packers podcast review of the game. That guy was impressed by Scourton.
  5. Mike White must be garbage from off the couch to Practice Squad now released. I'm going to treat this as the pundits treated the Headon Hooker release.
  6. The Saints are going to be without 3 starting Offensive Linemen. Derrick Brown and the rest of the Dline are going to dominate up front and hold the Saints offense in check and force their rookie QB into a mistake or 2. I do however think our offense struggles more than expected as the Saints do have a decent run defense. We look like the better team the whole day, but our offense struggles and that keeps the final score looking closer than it should feel. Something like 13 - 3 or 17-6.
  7. On paper, he was part of the best defensive line in the NFL. I don’t think there was a better landing spot.
  8. This UNC/Stanford game is the cure for insomnia. This is basically the college rendition of our game vs. the Jets. Just hot garbage football.
  9. My son will be there as well. I’m hoping it’s a good showing. They’ve been bad for so long he can’t really remember them ever being good.
  10. Today
  11. It's never an easy win against a division opponent. And let's not forget we are starting a backup level qb.
  12. Ughh. I felt great about the Packers' game but have a bad feeling about this one. I think the run game never takes off, we have a couple of turnovers and Jason Hill and Kamara run all over us and we lose.
  13. What Dan Morgan has done with this QB room is criminal.
  14. It'll be a true measuring stick of Canales' Panthers. This is a team they SHOULD beat easily. But it's the exact kind of game over the last 5 years we've tended to lose handily.
  15. No T-mac, we need to run the ball 40 times or more.
  16. My guy Miles Bridges is a 7 year veteran and he is mid at best on a good night which is few and far between now. Anyway you aren't trading one without the other (Bridges and LaMelo) regardless because they are close. Virtually no one here and only player only fans of LaMelo expect him to ever play anything close to the bulk of a season again. It's rapidly approaching the point of ripping off the bandaid. And if and when that happens both LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges will be gone.
  17. My son and his girlfriend are going to this game so for their sake I hope they put a beat down on the Saints. I'm really nervous about this game when I normally just don't care. I think we find a way to lose this game.
  18. why do need seven D-lineman on the 53 when bobby brown, cam Jackson, and Jaden crumedy rarely ever plays?
  19. Richie Cunningham, Joe Nedney and Graham (as well as some other dude I’ve since forgotten) were there when Kasay was hurt.
  20. When Julius Peppers nearly decapitated Aaron Rodgers for continuing to tip-toe at the sidelines and running 5 yards up.
  21. still not the releae were all wishing for
  22. Ugh, elevated Chisena from the practice squad today, that can't be a good sign for T-Mac playing tomorrow.
