Where do you fall on the Bryce Young spectrum?
kungfoodude replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have seen little inclination that they are laying down on him, that I can agree with. I don't think we are going to ever see much in the way of unfiltered opinions in the public realm from his teammates because that's extremely rare and extremely toxic behavior. It's certainly a positive thing that they support him but, again, that doesn't make a successful NFL starting QB. Playing well on Sunday's does. That is what has been lacking to date. He is not playing well consistently enough to be considered an NFL starting QB. He has to improve there. Be more consistent. Be more decisive. Make correct decisions more frequently. -
Hey You, You Don't Know Quarterbacking
kungfoodude replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's fine but for every Kurt Warner there are 10 Tony Banks that don't find their spot because....it never really existed. Jake Browning was on and off practice squad teams for years until he stuck in Cincy. In his limited action over the past two seasons, he has played well enough that the Bengals panic traded for 41 year old Joe Flacco. It's easy to point to outliers like Warner or Purdy or Tom Brady as players who fell through the cracks because....well, they are outliers. The statistics over the long term have never really borne out the argument that every QB is just waiting for their perfect spot and situation. Most of these guys bounce around the league and it just never really clicks anywhere or they become marginal backup QB's. I don't think that exactly an accident. It's tough to be a starting NFL QB and it's why the hunt every offseason is so frantic. There are just so few that do it at a high level. My guess is that a theoretical market for Bryce Young(today) is going to look a lot like that post Chicago Justin Fields market. Not a lot of interest and a late round pick value at the highest. And a lot of that IS going to be his average to below average physical traits. It's extremely tough to be in that range and excel in the NFL. And it's precisely because you DO have to be closer to perfection to make up for the fact that you can't do a lot of the things that the elite to above average starters in this league do. -
Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is

Im never not impressed by how confidently wrong you are. I've watched probably 200 NFL QBs play live. This talk about Bryce's arm strength is retarded, pure and simple. Bryce can make every throw an NFL QB needs to make in any circumstance. Does he have an arm that makes you go wow all the time? No, but very few QBs truly do. Bryce has plenty of zip on the ball when he wants. That TD to XL was a frozen rope. He throws to the opposite hash and outside all the time with no problem. Bryce's arm is objectively stronger than Cam's post-injury. I've seen both live multiple times and I know. And Cam could still play QB well without his rocket launcher. OPs point remains. QB success relies on a lot of nebulous things. Obviously you dont like Bryce. But his success is not going to be bc he doesn't have the arm strength. Its embarrassing this is a thing. Go to some games and actually educate yourself. -

I personally think Bryce is going to be an extremely good Quarterback for a long time. If you look at modern QB development, it just takes a while. The extreme athletes can get by early, but if you look at the trajectories of guys the last 10 years, were seeing a lot of slow-cooking. Jared Goff, Geno Smith, Baker, Sam Darnold, Trevor Lawrence. The list is long. The guys that were truly special from Day 1 is an extremely short list. The list of things that college quarterbacks are responsible for gets shorter by the day with the transfer portal, and the college offenses. The list of things that NFL Quarterbacks are responsible for seems to get longer and longer each season. I saw an interview the other day in which a rookie quarterback and center were calling plays for the offense. I can't remember the team or the Quarterback, but I definitely remember the clip. It takes time, even for the smartest and most gifted, and the reality is, we have no idea how good or bad the coaching may be until we hear things we aren't supposed to hear anyway. Bryce isn't perfect, but I saw in another thread, his biggest struggle is risk/reward. That is something I only expect him to improve upon. His adjustments, ability to read a defense, and execution have been extremely good considering our rosters in his tenure here. Our offensive personnel and coaching were both so poor his rookie year that I'm not sure it's fair to properly evaluate that at all. Since that time, all we've seen from him is growth and progress. -
Not really. The run defense has been solid except for the opening game and New England. We shut Arizona's run game down, but early turnovers hurt. And of course, we shut out Atlanta.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is
CRA replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers
True, Bryce having a weaker arm wouldn’t be a big deal if it was paired with… Great accuracy, ball placement, etc. But it’s not. Bryce has consistently done 2 things all 3 seasons. One of the lowest completion % in the NFL each year, one of the highest bad throws % in the NFL. Then you can get into his unwillingness to stress a D and how that has allowed safeties and DBs cheat coverage making the small ball so many QBs enjoy a tougher task. -

Sure, but there's a minimum amount of physical ability one needs to be successful at QB in the NFL. Young at QB is like a having 265 lbs LT. Technique will only get you so far. -
The Bryce Young "Game Winning Drive" narrative needs to end
Jaxel replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
This incredibly long and unnecessary post is basically the "I know the [insert RB] had 160 yards and 2 TDs, but he average 1.5 yards per carry if you take out the 2 long runs he had," argument for running backs. -

Burrow had a pretty weak arm for NFL standards. He actually changed his throwing motion after his rookie year to put more zip on his throws. It was pretty interesting to read about. I think Bryce’s arm is ok when he has fundamentals and his feet set. Obviously not as good as some of the top arm talent guys but he can make most throws when his feet are set. When he gets happy feet his passes get off. He doesn’t have elite arm strength like Mahomes and Allen to where his fundamentals being off doesn’t change the velocity of his passes. That’s just what I’ve observed which is also why he commits turnovers when he is under pressure. -

I think his size is to blame for that though. Dude has pretty high level awareness within his field of view IMO but it's limited because of his height. -
If you want attention to something, I feel like the report button works better than just saying mods in the thread. I assume it sends them an alert, as I doubt they just continuously watch this place. Just trying to help, if you actually see something somewhere that needs intervention or you feel this does.

Hey You, You Don't Know Quarterbacking
Panthera onca replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes, in the absence of your big brain, those points have been discussed ad nauseum around here. Most stable individuals can see that the org sucks since Tepper took over. We can’t change that fact so we debate Bryce’s viability as a QB into oblivion. Bryce has shown the occasional flash but it is year 3 and decisions have to be made. I personally don’t think he’s cut out for this but as a fan of the Panthers I hope that somehow it works. -

I agree that perspective is important. I also think that it's fine to take the wins when you can. So the Panthers have started playing a lot better against bad teams after the first couple of weeks. Cool, I'll take that. Will it continue? I don't know. The Jets could be the uber trap/Steve Wilks revenge buzzsaw that sucks all the life and wind out of us. Or we could beat them and the narrative still wouldn't change because they are a really bad team. Here's my long perspective: We've been one of the worst teams since we traded for Bryce - talent level, wins, etc. Any metric will show that. This year, we are improving. Maybe we're not bottom tier trash. Maybe we're just to below average. That's growth as far as I'm concerned. I'll take that. -

Where do you fall on the Bryce Young spectrum?
*FreeFua* replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was on that end of the spectrum with you when he got benched so I definitely understand why a lot of people feel that way This league does have an issue with developing young QB’s. Especially those that go to bad teams drafting high The difference with Young from a lot of these other QB’s is that his ceiling is obviously a lot lower due to physical tools For me, it’s just really tough to look at our organization as a whole and what it’s become the last 7-8 years under Tepper and completely write off any young QB before seeing him with a proper supporting cast (coaching, team, management) I’d like to see Young be more aggressive with his legs and the BS fumbles absolutely have to stop though -

Raleigh PF replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
We aren't asking the right questions. Bryce is a decent QB. The Panthers are finding out that having the correct pieces around him is required for him to be successful. That means a good running game, competent receivers and a sturdy offensive line. Bryce can be a positive contributor in those conditions. A couple of further improvements and this could be a playoff team. Bryce could be good enough to help the Panthers get there. But he's not enough to get the Panthers to the Super Bowl let alone win it. So, the missing option in the poll is "He's good enough to help get the Panthers to the playoffs, but not the Super Bowl." -
Oh, heck no.
