Let's see which armchair GM's admit being wrong.

WOW!!

At the time, I wanted Cox over Luke.

Cam made me nervous, but he was a QB, and I knew that we needed one.

I liked the Capt. pick, but hated the Amini pick, wanted Glenn in that spot.

Thought Adams would amount to a good slot WR/scat back/returner.

Didn't like either of the RB selections.

i loved everette brown. i thought he was a freeney clone and had actually done a mock that year and had brown going 14th overall.

i loved jarrett and eas enamoured with his number of TDs in college and thought he was also going to be keyshawn v.2.

i loved amini and was high on him predraft that year. i'm still holding out hope there.

the only pick i can remember absolutely hating was jimmy. i was loving watching him fall and was laughing at him and wondering what team was going to be dumb enough to draft him. i yelled and screamed and kept wishing this was a nightmare i would wake up from when we drafted him. i hoped for the best after the initial shock wore off a couple days later, but he was everything i thought he would be.

there were a couple players i wished we hadn't drafted because we were set there and/or wanted someone else. names that jump out to me are kalil (we had a probowl(?) center we picked up in FA that i liked), beason(we had morgan), stewart (we had williams), keuchly (wanted a DT or WR and we had beason, but i knew keuchly was special and thought it would have been ok if we did).

i really didn't like kk...but that was if he was going to be the only addition to DT we had. somehow star made the kk selection more paletable to me. i didn't trust his motor.

Amini was actually playing pretty well before he got injured. Hope he can get back 100%. The only problem with Amini selection is Glenn was taken right after him LT >>>>>>>> LG.

Where to begin...

I wasn't on board with Cam. Heck, I didn't care for the entire QB crop that year because I thought next year's crop would be better.  And while it arguably was, picking Newton was not a mistake.  Happy to be wrong there.

Also groaned when they picked Luke.  Liked him as a player, but I wanted a defensive tackle, a receiver or maybe a corner at that pick.  Again, happy to be wrong.

A player I thought was a steal though?  Rae Carruth.  Unfortunately he wasn't a steal, he was a kill :(

Thought Eric Shelton would be a good choice too (ugh).  Ditto Dwayne Jarrett who I believed was a second round steal.  And yes, I liked the Armanti Edwards pick (though I hated the trade up).

Other choices I remember having strong feelings about...

Absolutely hated the pick of Kerry Collins (wanted Steve McNair).

Winced when they took Tshimanga Biakabutuka (was hoping for Eddie George).  Now remember how Bill Polian, when asked if he had any concerns about his durability, flatly said "None"

Blew my stack when they chose Jason Peter over Vonnie Holliday after Jack Bushofsky or Dom Anile one (I forget which) famously promised Holliday he'd be dancing on the table if he were available.  Only got worse when the next two selections were Chuck Wiley and Mitch marrow over Leonard Little (he hadn't killed anyone at the time).

Lost it again when they took DeShaun Foster over Clinton Portis.  Our UCLA connection (Jim Skipper's son Kelly, I think) messed us up on that one.

Was a big fan of DeAngelo Williams.  Had been the Panthers GM in a mock draft just prior to that and chose him as my pick.  Most wanted LenDale White at the time.

Was not a fan of the trade down to pick Jon Beason.  Nothing against Beason, but I wanted Greg Olsen. Little did I know we'd eventually get him, and lose Beason.

Loved the Ryan kalil pick.

Loved the Jeff Otah pick too, but blanched again when I saw what it cost.  For what we paid, he should have been a ten year starter and a perennial pro-bowler :(

Wasn't a big fan of the Everette Brown pick.

Scared a buddy of mine when the Jimmy Clausen pick was announced.  He saw my reaction and thought something was seriously wrong

And naturally, loved the Star pick.  Like many others, my jaw dropped when the Jets didn't take him.  Was surprised when we doubled down with Short, but not displeased.

Lord only knows what happens this year.

I was very excited to get Keuchly and Lotulalei

Draft pick I thought was a STEAL and turned out to be bad:  Jimmy Clausen

Draft pick I thought was terrible and turned out to be great: Can't think of anyone. I was kind of disappointed we picked KK Short, but warmed up to the idea after realizing that we were simply following the NYG philosophy of controlling the trenches.

I hated the Kuechly pick. Anyone who was in the draft chat room could tell you I was pissed. Don't remember who I wanted in his place. Didn't want Cam I wanted Marcell Dareus or Patrick Peterson. I wasn't pissed about the Cam pick though and embraced it immediately. I was glad when we picked Dwayne Jarrett as I think at the time he had numerous all time records for college receivers. Hated the Amini pick because I wanted Janoris Jenkins but I think he got picked like one spot ahead of us.

    • It wasn’t completely his fault, but outside of two throws and one or two scrambles he didn’t do much to help. His accuracy was all over the place, numerous passes that were placed poorly and didn’t give the receiver a good chance to catch the ball or do anything with it after. He also continues to display terrible pocket awareness. Even the sacks could have been avoided, they weren’t immediate like the pressure we got on Shough at times. Bryce just often has no feel for pressure and stands there waiting to get sacked after numerous seconds have passed.
    • I really fuging hate this era in so many ways.  I look at those Adin Ross and Neon kids, and I just wonder why tf are they famous?  Why would anyone be desperate enough to gain THAT audience that they’d risk money, career, disciplinary action to go up there and associate with those fuging dweebs?  And back in my day, racist peers got their ass beat.  And not endorsing or approving bully culture, but checks and balances and all…  had those two been bullied, or at the very least humbled, they wouldn’t be famous and glorified for being the fuging idiots they are now.  It seriously pisses me off… they both have done and said multiple, openly racist stuff and major media keeps pushing them, talking about them, and propping them up… and then dummies like Puka who don’t need the platform or exposure lend their celebrity to them.  fuging idiot… and even the other streamers, I don’t get - Speed, Kai…  I don’t understand making nobodies famous at all, but there is at least entertainment value to some degree there, and I could see how young, impressionable kids would find them something to aspire to (sadly), or view as “cool.”  But Ross and Neon?  They’re just shitty, shitty nerds with big ass mouths. I’ve went back recently and watched some classics (in two very different eras and categories 😂)  like Robocop and Idiocracy.  And what I find fascinating is how both movies illustrate how stupid society became by showing what the citizenry is entertained by.  In both, society became anti-intellectual and the citizenry were entertained by lowest denominator, primal-type absurdity - poo like, “Ouch! My Balls!”  Or on Robocop, a guy is a watching a show where they are smashing cakes on ladies’ breasts and then a guy says a line as the camera zooms in like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!” and the audience thinks it’s hilarious.  That’s where I feel like we are now.  Like who watches that clip with Puka and thinks any of that poo is funny or cool?  If I was Puka, I’d honestly be wondering why tf I’m hanging out with these beta ass, racist, cretin ass weirdos.
    • 7 wins this year and some of those against really good teams and yall think Canales might get fired? Lol Good luck getting a better coach in here if that happens.
