Was 2009 the worst overall Panthers draft?

Recommended Posts

According to Greg Auman of the TB Times, 25 of 32 teams in the NFL have 0 or 1 players on their roster from that draft. That was a bad draft for everyone, not just us.

Just look at the Top 10 from that draft:

1- Matthew Stafford

2- Jason Smith

3- Tyson Jackson

4- Aaron Curry

5- Mark Sanchez

6- Andre Smith

7- Darrius Heyward-Bey

8- Eugene Monroe

9- BJ Raji

10- Michael Crabtree

Out of all those, there's only 1 Pro-Bowler (Raji). This compared to 7 from 2010, 8 from 2011, and 4 already from 2012. It was a horrible draft all around.

Between 2008, 2009, and 2010 draft.....oh and most of 2011 draft. This organization got set back 5 years. We still suffer from those drafts! We have a lot of ground to make up in our "build through the draft philosophy." FA signings=quick fix! Excellent drafts=sustained success!

Yes, to be fair I think a good draft is hitting on 2 out of your first three rounders. Bonus points if you can get a starter in rounds 4-7. We missed the mark on that draft hard.

Those are really fair expectations for a draft. Most Huddlers expect 7 starters/R.O.Y. candidates.
