What would you do if you were the Texans?

1, Trade down

2. Take Clowney

3. Take...gulp, Manziel. My reasoning? I think he's going to be decent, but not a star. At the same time, Houston has superb talent compared to most teams drafting #1 and can make him a Russel Wilson type guy. Not to mention, he's going to sale tickets/jersey, and this is a business.

Depends on if I thought I could get by with the quarterback I have.  If not I would draft the best QB in the draft.  If I felt no one would be worth drafting I would go with Kalil.  If not him then Clowney.  Would I trade down?  Sure if I could but not if you ask for a king's ransom.

manziel

upside with this kid is unreal. lots of knocks on him sure but sometimes the "it" factor is too great to overlook.  the new head coach there could potentially have his franchise qb gift wrapped and delivered to his doorstep day 1.

ask Ron how that worked out...  not comparing players but situations.

1.  Trade down.

2.  Bite the bullet and take Johnny Football.  Sure, Clowney has everything you want on paper but that translated to 3 sacks in college last year.  With the new rookie wage scale, I think you can roll the dice on that boom/bust QB much more than you could justify it before.  Houston has a good roster and is a QB away from competing.  You add Clowney to that roster and he turns out to be great, what have you really done?  You still don't have a QB.  In the NFL, you either have a QB and you can compete or you don't have a QB and you ultimately can't compete.  The rookie wage scale protects you from that franchise dooming high pick bust that cripples your franchise from a cap perspective.  Take the QB who you feel can be great.  I think that's Manziel.  I basically see him as a better version of Russell Wilson.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
