Gettleman on Boston "He sets a tone, he's a very physical player"

He seems to have good hands and speed, but he does have bad form when tackling. One thing i noticed is he likes to try and score after intercepting. That is one thing i will miss about Cap. He does look to have talent and awareness, hopefully our staff can coach him up.

First off, he got burned three times.

Second, the interception was not due to his coverage skills; the ball was thrown right to him.

Third, he didn't recover the fumble (I was at the game).

Oh... and it was against a DI-AA (Rocco) and a DII QB (Simms).

Well I wasn't at that game, it looked like he recovered the fumble, had my sound off, my mistake.

I see him getting beat twice, at 1min off play-action by a TE from the strongside and at 6min where all 3 DB's look lost, can't quite see what happened on the play. I see one bad play that actually counted. And if you can't give him credit for reading the QB's eyes and coming back for the pick I don't know what to say. I can't see the 3rd one but let me know where that one is so I can take a look.

I was honestly expecting much worse, 9 solo tackles, 13 total and a pick 6 is not a horrible day.

Like I said in another thread. My friend breaths and sleeps UNC. He said that Boston came in as a highly rated player that never quite panned out. he said that Boston has decent speed and athleticism, but gives up too many big plays over the top. He said that there is no way he would have drafted Boston and could have justified taking James Hurst at that pick, and he would have been a lot happier.

UNC across the board makes it seem like they cause player regression. So many players in the NFL and each one seems viewed as having major bust potential

Like I said in one of my previous posts, he is a sure tackler whether he is taking down a running back, a slot receiver, or a number one on a quick slant or screen play.

However, Boston is not a player that you want' to rely on to cover an opposing teams wide out or tight end. There was a reason he was moved to safety.

Boston is a tough player to evaluate.  Yes, he was a highly touted HS CB coming into UNC, but it was evident early on that he wasn't a CB at the D1 collegiate level.  He's similar to Godfrey in that he has a knack for making big plays, but seemingly gets caught out of a position a lot and gives up a lot of big plays.  However, like Godfrey, it's tough to say how much of that is on him and how much is him trying to cover for weak CBs.  UNC's CBs were downright dreadful.  Boston was the only DB on that team that ever showed anything.

Uh... what?  They just had 5 players drafted this year.  They had 5 players drafted last year.  They had 9 players drafted in 2011.  They've had 5 1st round picks in the last 4 years and have had guys drafted in the 1st round in 5 of the last 6 years.  Yet, you argue that they cause "player regression"?

Sorry, there's simply nothing to support your claim.  We're not talking about an SEC powerhouse here that's bringing in the cream of the crop year in and year out.  The NFL talent UNC has churned out considering their recruiting class rankings is absolutely phenomenal.  Not many of those 1st round picks were considered future 1st rounders when they first arrived in Chapel Hill.

In his defense, ( and this is from a State fan) The 4-2-5 defense is a nightmare for defensive backs, especially safeties.  It's kinda counter intuitive because you think it would be easier since there is an extra defensive back.  Also, the coverages can be really tricky because they are so different than most base coverages.

Those players have so much on their shoulders because they have to play the run much more than they normally do in a tradition 4-3 or 3-4.  I think this may have slowed his reads down  a lot.

There is so much that goes into being a good defensive back. Defensive backs are almost always products of their defense as a whole and their position coach (teaching the correct keys).

I guess I am making excuses for him, but I am guessing they see enough talent there to justify the pick and maybe are thinking he would benefit from a more traditional system.

4 paragraphes defending a UNC player.... I need a shower.

He's a really good ball hawking safety. Played corner before being converted to safety. My only thing is it seems like he tries to tackle high a lot and drag guys down. That won't work in the NFL. His tackling needs to improve

With Keuchly in the middle there won't be too many tackles for him to miss.

Dude. You gotta let this Hurst thing go.
