Cam wants more than what Kap got- Ian Rap...

Colin Kaepernick's unusual deal with the San Francisco 49ers continues to have reverberations across the NFL landscape. That includes the Cam Newton camp.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday on NFL Total Access that Kaepernick's contract -- a pact that includes just $13 million in guaranteed money -- "really scares people who know Cam Newton very well."

The structure of Kaepernick's deal essentially allows the Niners to evaluate the quarterback on a year-to-year basis. There is a fear in Newton's circle that Kaepernick's deal is a sign of things to come in how teams do business with franchise quarterbacks.

According to Rapoport, guaranteed money is what counts for Newton, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal with the Carolina Panthers. Newton wants a contract that will provide more guaranteed money and a higher yearly salary than Kaepernick received.

Talks between the Panthers and Newton have yet to begin. According to Rapoport, Newton's people are simply waiting for the Panthers to start a dialogue.

You can safely assume that the agents for Newton and Andy Dalton won't be breaking bread with Kaepernick's people any time soon.

Figured as much,  I've been saying for a while that he will be the highest paid player in NFL history when he gets his contract.

I've tossed out the contract values before but look at something along these lines for Cam.

6 years-141 million - 65-70 guaranteed.

He's going to get it too. lol

no need to contact them now. it's not really a pressing matter. they got the fifth year extension for a reason...they don't want to deal with it right now and they won't. maybe during the season they might start, but right now there's not really a need so no....not really interesting.

I think Cam and his agent give Gman a big middle finger if our Oline/WRs don't add up this season and his production suffers because of it,   and Gman tries to use that dropoff as a way to severely lowball Cam.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
