Tangentially Panthers related - Interesting note on Offensive Lines

Agreed.

If we are going to play with the big boys in the NFC, and I'm not convinced we are there yet, we will need to protect Cam at some point.

At what point last year could we not hang with the big boys of the NFC?

Almost beat Seahawks - lost in closing minutes due to fumble.

Beat 9ers @ their place

Beat saints to take first place and second seed

There is no one in the NFC that is worlds better than us.

Another thing to take into the equation are salary cap implications that come with building a team these days.

You have to pay a crazy premium on a franchise QB and pro-bowlers at skill positions. If you're a competent GM who can identify good lineman when you see them, maybe it's a good strategy to just find the guy that boosts you're team the most rather than building strictly from the trenches.

Our solid interior was built by with 2nd an 3rd rounders so we've been built from a mix of things.

Got curb stomped in the playoffs.

We looked lost out there, but with more trips and age, we will be better.

I just have a feeling that we could take a step back this year, and some other NFC teams may take a step forward.

Maybe if Gettleman at least tried to build a line, people wouldn't be so mad. He's done very little and there's no excuse for that. Oh we don't have much depth at tackle? Yea don't even try to sign or draft anyone. Just go with what we have.

I am curious to who you think we should have signed? Any free agent tackle who was clearly better then what we have would have cost more then we are willing or able to pay.

As far as the draft goes once you get past the first few rounds the chance of a rookie tackle being better then what you already have is slim.

Got curb stomped is overstating it don't you think?

We score on both of the goal line drives and the game is completely different. We would have had a size able lead and the pressure would have been on SF not us.

Eh I feel like a lot of teams last year weren't all that good.

Eagles will fall

One of the NFC west teams will drop.

And I think we can best every NFC north team.

what the Cowboys did by taking OL with their last two 1st R picks and 3 of their last 4 would be like if we took a DL in the 1st R next draft

last year the Cowboys had the worst defense in the NFL and the worst defense in Dallas Cowboys history

meanwhile, their OL was rated #4 in the NFL by PFF behind only Eagles, Bengals, Broncos

yet the Cowboys neglected defense and took another OL with their 2014 1st R pick (#16 overall), building their OL into a super-strength that is rated...

...best in the 2014 NFL by

-Sports Illustrated Robert Klemko

-ESPN/Grantland's Robert Mays

-Football Outsiders and FO Almanac's Mike Tanier

...2nd-best in the 2014 NFL by Sports Illustrated's Doug Farrar

...3rd-best in the 2014 NFL by ESPN's Matt Williamson (behind Broncos and Eagles) and he wrote: "At this time next year, the Cowboys might have football's best offensive line."

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
