ESPN Insider ranks Panthers OL the worst in the NFL

last year PFF rated our OL the 7th-best in the NFL (despite calling Kalil "overrated")

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/01/13/2013-offensive-line-rankings/4/

And now ESPN Insiders rates our OL the worst in the NFL (2nd-worst was the Jaguars)? I know our OL will likely take a step back, but from #7 to the worst??? This is the explanation for Panthers OL being last:

32. Carolina Panthers

Following the retirements of Travelle Wharton and Jordan Gross, this group could be frighteningly bad. The only fixture of the group that Carolina can truly count on is Ryan Kalil, one of the best centers in the business. The tackle tandem of Byron Bell and Nate Chandler could be the worst in the league. At guard, Amini Silatolu is coming off an ACL tear and has yet to live up to his billing as the 40th overall player selected in the 2012 draft. This year's third-round pick, Trai Turner , looks promising but he's only a rookie. Turner will likely battle Chris Scott for the right guard spot. Many want to mock the Panthers' wide receivers corps, but this team is far better off at receiver than it is along the line. Cam Newton , who is coming off an ankle injury, should be under plenty of duress and will need all of his outstanding physical ability to keep plays alive.

(top 5 were Broncos, Eagles, Cowboys, Patriots, 49ers)

Stats are a poor method to evaluate an oline. We did NOT have the 7th best oline last year.

We arent the worst this year, the dolphins line is one of the worst groups ive seen in recent history.

These guys have been reading and hearing this junk all year. If they do end up being the worst, then so be it. But I would be willing to bet this group is going to surprise a lot of people.

So now we have the worst offensive line and the worst group of receivers in the league. If the coach's aren't making these bulletin board materials then they should be fired. Professional athletes don't like being told they suck. Use it as motivation for God's sake.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
