Daniel Jeremiah's Pre Draft Write Up on Luke

Black

Recommended Posts

I follow DJ on twitter, I don't follow many "scouts" or "analysts" but I like him. I can't remember who's pre draft thing he released a couple weeks ago but it was spot on as well.

I can admit I wasn't on the Luke bandwagon and was pretty pissed about the pick when it happened. Mainly because we were "deep" at the position at the time. I wanted Michael Floyd but I've wanted a WR for some time now. I was also concerned about Luke's athleticism and pass coverage ability, I bought into all the hype about his tackling numbers being inflated due to all his tackles 5-10 yards downfield. But I'am sure glad we made the pick. Never expected this pick to turn out so good. Great centrepiece for our D for a long time hopefully.

Looking back at the 2012 and 2013 drafts, you could argue that we picked Top 3 and Top 5 talent in both years with the 9th and 14th picks.  Throw in 2011 which was obviously Cam with the 1st pick, and now in 2014 we got KB with the 28th pick who is looking like a Top 10 talent.

Point being, we have crushed the first round since 2011.

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
    • His daughter's initials are CAM.  Coincidence? I think not
