When's the last time you got a driving citation?

Dear, SCP et al.

This is not a NYC pwns reply. K? K. ;)

I hope Charlotte gets the light rail improved. Maybe for your kids sake, lol. Because not having to buy gas, buy car insurance, make payments, deal with traffic, get tickets, take the written test, and deal with the DMV in general is a breath of fresh air. And it surprised me to discover I rarely even miss driving.

F the DMV though. Bad memories.

A few years ago on 485 on the way to work (toward Concord). No one was even near me and I usually know better when I'm all alone out there but I was really tired and was late because I had to take a big dump before leaving the house that came out of nowhere. I was going like 85 in a 65. Cop was pretty cool. He asked me if I knew why I was pulled over and I said "I was totally speeding and not paying attention." He asked what's the hurry. I told him late for work because I had diarrehea. Cop cracked up and told me it's not reckless driving ticket and just to go in there and they'll lower it for me since it was literally my first ticket EVER. Went to court house on my date and got it dropped to only 7 over.

This happened to me minus the dump around two years ago. I had always heard under 9 and it doesn't go on your insurance. The asst da dropped it down to 7 over. I changed insurance and they doubled my rate insisting that was not the case. I've got another year of paying way too much for car insurance.

On my way to work this morning (three minute commute) I was pulled for rolling through a stop sign, in my neighborhood.

I can't stop thinking about it and it pisses me off more each time I do. With the court cost the fine is $288.

Make me feel better by sharing your ticketing stories.

If you have a court date, you should go of you have the time.

My last ticket, my only one in the last ten years, they literally just dismissed it the second I walked up.

I'd suggest this for UK drivers. My last fine was 4 years ago and I wrote up a soppy guilty plea and sent it in. Got a £500 ($900) fine and 6 penalty points. Next time I'll be there in person.

Dang I've heard conflicting things. Most have told me to get an atty, which I have a friend that I was going to hire.

But yeah if I can just go myself and get it reduced by the DA that would be great.  I guess it's just a gamble you take. The attorney has worked in the city for a while and is probably close with the DA so there is that.

Going yourself can be successful, but it takes time and is still a bit of a risk.

Getting an attorney basically guarantees that it will be reduced to a non moving violation.  99% of the time, they reduce it to an "improper equipment" charge which carries the same fine, but no points (on license nor insurance).

All they want is the money.

I've been pulled over Once ever in my life.

In 2007 I was driving home around midnight on the freeway and some car started tailgating me. I was like wtf it's midnight go to the other lanes so I started accelerating. Before I knew it I was going 110mph on the freeway for a good 5 miles and to be honest it felt good. Good until I noticed lights appears out of nowhere and holy crap I got pulled over.

The CHP goes To my window and asks me wtf was I thinking and I was honest with him that a car was tailgating me and I just accelerated and kept accelerating. He looked at my license plates and noticed my veteran plates an told me it was my lucky day and he never wanted to see me again.

I think part of the reason I went home instead of jail that night was because he could only pull one of us over and the other car got away. I've driven the speed limit ever since.

Just came back to this thread to get some advice and this is what I needed so thanks.

Got popped going 74 in a 55 in Locust on my way to the Huddle tailgate for the home opener. Lawyer said that if I show up with no attorney they will most likely take my license (even though I haven't had a citation in over 15 years).

Said court costs alone are $480 and he needs more than that in an account to make sure all expenses were covered to represent me. I was planning on getting out of this for about $400.

So anyway, I was going to the Huddle tailgate so feel free to donate to the Free Johnny Rockets Foundation. I have a paypal account for deposits.

Tell me about it. I'm looking at over $400 just for not coming to an absolute stop in my neighborhood.

So ridiculous. Meanwhile I see idiots runnings red lights just about every day.

Last ticket I got was about 6 years ago. the speed limit changed from 45 to 35, and I was doing 53. Got popped right after the curve where the speed limit changed.

I tried to say I was slowing down, but he didn't buy it.

When he brought me the ticket and I saw it was 53 in a 35, I asked him if it would help if I said I was dyslexic. He laughed and said no.

I went to court, it was reduced to 41 in a 35.

Got off with a warning a few times but no tickets.

Last time was like 2007 back in college coming back from Snoshoe to VT.  It was pretty icey/snowy, had chains on my truck and wasn't going too fast.  A really cautious driver was going like 15 mph on a 4 lane road (that's at least what it looked like with the conditions) near Pearisburg and I zipped around him at about 35.  No biggie but all of a sudden I'm pulled over by 2 cops.  Found out I passed the car in the towns paralel spots.  The cop was really cool about it but it could've been a pretty pricey ticket.
