The Ronde Barber Thread

He tried to explain why Levante David would have won Defensive Player of the Year on another team. Whether it's true or not, it didn't happen, he played for the Bucs, don't walk over Luke's achievement. Towards the end he was so irate by the Bucs performance he could barely talk.

To be fair, he DID also qualify that statement with "take away Luke Kuechly". So, basically, more coulda, woulda, and shoulda. "If the best LB in the game wasn't playing in the NFL and if David was on a better team, he'd be the best LB in the game".

In game, he didn't seem too biased to me. He did end the game as a homer though.

He almost had a melt down towards the end, trying to explain the various "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda's", lol

Only saw the end of the game on TV and caught this and thought 'what a moron.' He's gotta hate calling Panthers games especially with Stew still playing. Probably has nightmares about stiff arms!

He kept bitching about Deangelo running out of bounds because it was stopping the clock. But it wasn't... like he didn't even know the rules.

I remember that, Chris Meyers wanted to say that the clock was actually running, but spared Rhonde from being called out in his first broadcast.

Ah, the usual, "this announcer was terrible and was mean to our team" thread.  Honestly, he spent the whole game giving the Panthers defense props (especially Kuechly).  The problem is huddlers tend to find anything that isn't flattering to the Panthers some type of bias and homerism.

"Well if this happens..."

"If McCown...."

"Lavonte David this... Gerald McCoy this..."

He didn't give the Panthers any props. I guess that's what happens when you play with TB your entire career.

He gave the Panthers some props, but not many.  I know he commented on Williams and Stewart being one of the best, if not the best, duos in football. Also was high on Olsen all game.

Thats pretty much it though..

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
