Donkey Kong Suh

Cam Newton's repeated reference to Ndamukong Suh as "Donkey Kong Suh" in today's press conference is getting national coverage.

ESPN actually seemed to think it was pretty funny.

PFT, not so much.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had one of the strangest press conferences in NFL history today.

For some reason, Newton refused to answer any questions about anything that any reporters asked him. That’s not particularly unusual; players frequently decline to talk to the press for one reason or another.

But instead of simply declining to answer, Newton instead answered every question by giving the same answer over and over again. And that answer was a statement about how his focus is on Sunday’s game against the Lions and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, whom Newton calls “Donkey Kong Suh.”

“My main focus right now is focusing on the Detroit Lions. I think I got my hands full trying to find ways to stay protected by Donkey Kong Suh and my fellow Auburn teammate Nick Fairley,” Newton said, over and over again.

They finish by asking whether it was meant as an insult or not, and then close with this...

We could ask Newton, but he probably wouldn’t answer, other than to say his main focus right now is the Detroit Lions.

    • I presented that scenario because this is a home game and we seemed to have improved in some capacity in that area as of recently. The problem with the possibility of sweeping the Bucs is this team has had a habit of quickly falling victim to momentum shifts. The Bucs are coming off a bitter loss the same as the Panthers but the Bucs have a much better proven track record this time of year and they have performed when the pressure is on unlike our Panthers. We have a shot against the Seahawks here in BOA but that is a matchup that could quickly get out of hand because they are a well coached team and that goes back to the momentum shifts I mentioned. I just don't see this team beating the Bucs in their stadium to close the season. Tall order to say the least.
    • I’d give it another year for Sanders and Evans, I don’t much care what you do with Tremble’s spot. Let him have another year or maybe replace him. Haven’t looked at his contract so that may be the determining factor.
    • Following the crazy up down pattern we finish 9-8 with an improbable sweep of TB, and lay an egg in the home playoff game.  I don’t know if I can sign on to sweeping TB but I suppose it’s possible, they aren’t really that good this year.    ps I can buy beating TB Sunday and losing to Seattle.  Then it just gets to can you fluke one game. Any given Sunday. So we’ll see.
