PFF: Bene Best Rookie CB Through 2 Games

I take everything from PFF with a grain of salt, but according to them (on ESPN Insider - Top 10 NFL Newcomers):

5. Bené Benwikere, Carolina Panthers
If there's one thing better than a rookie performing well right out of the gate, it's a fifth-round rookie doing so. Benwikere came across my radar with an impressive run of preseason performances, but he has carried those across to the regular season. He is the best-graded rookie cornerback at PFF, and unlike Jason Verrett just below him, he has put together two consistently good games, rather than one very good one. Quarterbacks targeting Benwikere so far have a passer rating of just 56.2.

Also ranks KB 7th:

7. Kelvin Benjamin, Carolina Panthers
Like Watkins, Benjamin has been asked to step in right away and be the No. 1 receiver for the Panthers. Benjamin hasn't quite managed a 100-yard receiving game yet, but his first game saw 92 yards and a touchdown on six catches. His second game saw a few unfortunate drops but also one of the most spectacular plays of the short season, hauling in a fantastic one-handed grab down the left sideline for a significant gain.

He's been very promising so far.  He's also the only rookie CB with the luxury of playing behind our front seven.  It's amazing what ramshackle secondaries have been able to do in this defense the last year and early on this year.  I really think we're going to become a go-to spots for free agents with something to prove.  Ginn and Mitchell both came here last year after getting very little interest on the open market.  Both got paid.  We reloaded with similar replacements and just kept on marching.  Life with a real GM I guess.

Love PFF when they praise Panther players, hate PFF when they don't.

That's why I said I take everything they say with a grain of salt. There seems to be little rhyme or reason into rankings for CERTAIN positions. For example, I think it's hard to accurately rank offensive line and secondary play - you simply don't know all the facts of the scheme, play call, who's responsible for whom, etc.

Never owned a CB jersey.  Hmmm, Big Pay Bene may just be the first.

Remember when Richard Marshall and his agent used to say that he'd one day be the highest paid defensive player in the league and then he had to take a prove it deal from Arizona because not even Hurney was dumb enough to pay him?  LOL!

I remember being confused all the time as to whether Gamble was actually good or not. That was frustrating.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
