D.G.saved this season regardless of what some think

When he placed the franchise tag on Hardy, he had no clue that he would be breaking bad.He took a calculated risk on a players sensibilities and lost that hand.He backed up his gamble by building the deepest stable of players at that position in the NFL.He basically saved this season with that one plan. Most teams have maybe one/two quality backups if the starting DE is lost. This team is where it is because of the stout Defense. D.G made sure that if the franchise gamble didn't pan out, they could still be dominant. When the Giants clean house next season and are looking for a GM...we have one of the best that they let walk. This man's foresight is part of what will make him a top 5 GM very soon.

I am not trying to be flippant, but the season was never in peril in my opinion.  To me the question was always whether we could build upon what we accomplished last year.

This.

We were gonna be one of the top teams regardless.

Only question was will we improve and take that next step ie conference championship and superbowl.

Moreover, overall I think that people support G-man and believe in his ability to scout talent.  That's not to say that he gets a blank check because he hasn't been perfect---particularly from a public relations' standpoint.  But most mature and knowledgeable fans know that he is doing what it takes to build the team the best way that he sees fit under tough cap considerations.  Will everyone agree with all his moves philosophically? No. Will most respect the reasoning behind his moves even if they don't necessarily agree philosophically with every one? Yes.

I have felt this way about DG since day one. I never understood all the criticism that some of you had for him. We have a gm who is running the team like a shrewd businessman and is an outstanding talent evaluator/scout. All he has some since coming here is win. He has clearly been building for long term success and not a flash in the pan type of success that has been our history.

It's funny how everyone thought we wouldn't have a good season, wouldn't win the division and ranked us low but now we are a top team and some are saying the best team in the NFL.

Its kind of like how we went from irrelevant to public enemy number one over something that had nothing to do with our team, which was the releasing of the RR video.

The decision to franchise Hardy was made before any of this off the field stuff ever happened.  Hardy at that time looked like a potential defensive superstar, and he was making clear to anyone who would listen that he wanted the biggest payday he could get.

Under those conditions, the vast majority of people agreed that tagging him was the best option.  And had the story that followed never happened, that view would probably still hold.

Now, you can say "well, they knew he was out there" but so was John Randle.  Even if none of this ever occurred, Hardy could have suffered a major injury and been done for the year (or life).  No one can see the future.

You have to make the decisions based on what you know at the time.  And at the time, it was the right call.

Yeah it looks tragic now, but hindsight and all that...

In 2012 we had Alexander and Addison, both still raw as hell..Hardy was there but still developing his game and of course C.J. D.G gutted the useless tackles(except for Dwan) and brought in Star,Kk, and Cole.He kept Frank and Mario(extended him this spring),Then added Horton and Ealy.Just the fact that he finds UDFA players that can actually play is amazing in itself. R.R I'm sure had a lot to do with guys like Dwan, Alexander, and Addison. Hurney was still here but on his way out.

    • lol Honestly, it might sound dumb, but I've had this idea in my head of a specific picture I really want to get with him since draft night. Basically I want it to be of the two of us sitting on the floor next to each other with the picture from behind.  Ideally it would have been with us both wearing T-Mac jerseys (and me wearing an Arizona hat that has block A logo on the back of it too), but since they won't have baby versions of those for a bit and that does seem like a waste of money on something he'll grow out of in a few months, I think I'll go with this that I've found on Amazon for like 12 bucks........ I'll get this made with T-Mac's #4 but then my Nephew's first name (which incidentally starts with a T, so I've already joked to my sister that she needs to change his middle name to something with "Mc" or "Mac" in it so i can call him T-Mac lol) Just think that would make for a really cool picture for me to have of him at this age (just over 13 months now), with the two of us wearing our #4's.  It's the type of thing I can absolutely see myself getting it printed out by Shutterfly on one of those canvas like prints to hang on my wall. And seeing as they live in NYC with me in Michigan, not sure the next time I'll see him again as I can't just drive on down the street for a picture when the jersey arrives, so was hoping I'd be able to take advantage of seeing them at the end of the month to get this picture, but it would all be dependent on the jersey (and this custom onesie) being shipped in time.
    • Just wear another jersey and have AI photoshop it lol
    • His piece of the pie is only going to get smaller unless there are serious injuries.  Unless the actual pie becomes that much larger, ie Bryce being Kurt Warner, I don't think there's room for him to breakout.  Just like there's not room for JT Sanders to break out beyond a couple hundred yards receiving and a few TDs. I don't think a lot of people understand the volume that XL got last year.
