Exactly...if Chud had the defense from last year we may have actually won a playoff game.

 

When Chud was here it was the offense carrying the team and the defense letting us down....last year it was the defense carrying the team and the offense letting the team down.

 

The last two games the defense fell apart and was the offense there to help? nope they squat on  10-16 points and run the clock out when down by 2+ scores.

I find it rather comical people are using our record as an indicator of Chud and Shula's abilities as OCs.  Shula got veteran Cam, an elite defense and Riverboat Ron to compensate for his playcalling.  Chud had rookie/still learning Cam, a middle of the road defense and Scared Ron.  And no, not for a second will I believe that our elite defense is a product of Shula's conservative offense.  We simply have better players on our defense now than we did those years.  I'm not saying I'm a big fan of Chud, the over-reliance on the read option was annoying and the first half of his second season was maddening, but I'd take him over Shula any day.

 

Actually, our defense was top 10-12 in the league in Chud's second year as coordinator.   Arguably better than it has been so far this year. 

 

In 2012, Chud's offense racked up a lot of points against teams like New Orleans that had one of the worst defenses in the history of the NFL, but against decent defenses, the offense tended to disappear when the game was on the line.

Remember this stretch of games in 2012?

 

Tampa - 3 4th qtr points.

NO - got a lot of points against a really bad defense.

NYG - 7 points total

Atl - epic defensive collapse

Seattle - 2 4th qtr points, and those were scored by the defense

Dallas - 7 second half points, 14 total

Chicago - offensive explosion of 3 fg's in the second half. 

 

The defense did collapse against Atlanta and cost us that one, but in most of these games, the defense kept us in it, while the offense disappeared in the second half. 

 

I am not a fan of shula, but IMO, he gives us a far better chance of winning than Chud ever did.

In 2012 Carolina was 15th in points allowed per game.  That's squarely middle of the road, like I said.

That 12-4 record could have easily been 7-9, we cut it close way to much last year. Not something i wanted to see again this year but more of a dominant team.

You are delusional. You are telling me with how the defense has been looking the past 2 games that we have a better chance of winning with Shula? I hope you enjoy the traditional Shula 10 point offense.

I don't think Chud had a fair wrap here. Yeah, he went 7-9. But think back, how many of those games were lost because of the defense? If the defense stopped anybody late in games that year, we would have won about 4 more games. And acatually, if you think back, it wasn't all Chud's fault at the end of games. Cam choked quite a bit back then and the defense choked every game. Personally, I liked Chud. And now that Cam is more mature and can handle a lot more workload, I think him and Chud would do this offense wonders if they hooked back up.

Chud wasnt an OC....he just put the games on Cam and watched. That's it. Oh, and he recycled all of Norv's trick plays and people went nuts

The defense was crap in the first half of the season. We were pretty much out of it when they started playing better.
