Trade for Morgan Moses?

One play does not define a player, but that was pretty egregious and downright dangerous. If he's truly that terrible and yet still on the field, what does that say about OL depth across the league?

Exactly....I don't think there is enough of an overall talent pool to keep all teams with even marginal talent across the OL

This draft is alot deeper at tackle. I won't be mad if DG gives up a good chunk of picks if we walk away with two solid tackles. OT's aren't cheap in FA and it isn't a great FA class either.

We fix our OL and our running game instantly becomes better and so does our passing game. It's obvious Cam doesn't need the best WR to put on a passing clinic. Grab another WR like Austin Pettis to replace Avant this offseason.

Plus we'd have a cheap, young OL for several years. With Cam's contract coming up this may be the way to go

Perhaps, but I've heard that premium DL are the hardest position to fill for many years. I dunno.

Plus Matt Kalil from 2012. Greg Robinson and Taylor Lewan appear to have been over drafted as well, at best. The bust rate climbs if you include the entire first round in recent years. Great but also scary for those hoping for a quick fix at OT from the first round in next year's draft. In GMan I trust.

They weren't first or second round draft picks.

No, but they're also not rookies. For comparisons sake, you can find plays where Ealy looks pretty terrible, too. That just comes with being a rookie.

FWIW, I wasn't on the Morgan Moses bandwagon; I'm just saying I don't really get the point of pointing out a bad play by a rookie, especially when he's not much worse than our current Tackles who don't have the excuse of being rookies. I doubt even the Moses lovers thought he would step in his rookie season and not have his ups and downs.

As far as us not drafting a tackle, I think it just puts us another year behind the 8-ball at the position. Sure, maybe none of the guys we were looking at looked like they would be better than Bell or Chandler THIS year, but now we'll be stuck in pretty much the same position next year instead of having a guy with more talent who's had a year to learn the ropes. At some point, you have to draft for the future.

I'm fine with Ealy in the second, I liked that we got a safety, the pick I don't agree with is Gaffney. Even if he hadn't gotten injured, I think that pick would have been much better used on a Tackle prospect whom we could groom for a year or at least a RB/WR/CB who could punt return.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
