Behind Enemy Lines - Bengals

Most articles out there about the Bengals are about AJ Green, easy pickings for journalists. The Bengals website apparently says Green could be out a few games....

Green has 17 catches for 314 yards and two touchdowns this season for Cincinnati (3-1). The team's website suggests that Green could miss multiple games with the injury. In the next three weeks after the Carolina game, Cincinnati has a road contest against the Indianapolis Colts and home games against the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Here is an interesting tidbit....

http://espn.go.com/blog/cincinnati-bengals/post/_/id/11928/bengals-panthers-nfl-week-6-on-deck-preview

Bengals cornerback and punt returner Adam Jones hates to call for a fair catch. He hates it so much that he hasn't called for a fair catch in 82 punt-return opportunities dating back to Nov. 16, 2006, when he played for the Titans. For perspective, consider that for the 1,094 punts that were returned in the NFL last season, another 636 were fair caught. He didn't have a single one. Jones also ranks second among active players with five career punt-return touchdowns.

Jones hasn't called for a fair catch in 82 punt returns? Sounds like an opportunity for Brad Nortman and the special teams to increase hang time and force a fumble.

For the first time since sustaining a concussion in the third quarter on Sept. 14 against Atlanta, Burfict returned to the practice field Wednesday. He's been cleared to full participation in practice, but that doesn't place him in the starting lineup Sunday at this point. He still needs to be passed by an independent neurologist Saturday per the NFL concussion protocol.

The Bengals defense looks awful without Burfict in the lineup. It is possible he misses this game as well. We likely won't know until Sunday at 11am when the inactives are announced.

Definitely more of an opportunity for us, of his 5 returning touchdowns only one has come in the 6 years that he's been at the Bungles. In 83 attempts at Cinci he has 1 returning TD and an average of just under 10y/re.

It's big - he's an unbelievable player and a TD machine. But they have Sanu who is balling pretty hard too.

But how good is Sanu when he doesn't have Green on the other side drawing double teams?  It will be interesting to see who the Bengals throw out there on the other side of Sanu if Green doesn't go.

I don't know that they really have a #3 receiver. Ben Tate maybe but he only caught 6 balls this year.

Get ready for a big dose of Bernard and Hill in both the run game and passing game.

I think you mean Brandon Tate, Ben Tate plays for the Browns.

    • He's handing off play calling duties to fuging Brad Idzik as well so, either that mouth breather can run the playbook and Canales can grow as an all around head coach or it will be a horrible decision and both of them and BY can screw off. I'm fine with that as long as it isn't just another excuse for BY to get another year with another coach worthy of working around his limitations as a qb.
    • Not only for Andersen but the whole team, having not beat the Habs this season before tonite.  Shows them that they aren't jinxed.
    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
