Is Shia LaBeouf a "great" actor?

"Great" puts him in the same conversation with De Niro, Streep, Oldman, Pacino, Hanks, Nicholson, Blanchett and Hopkins. If you think you can do that, you are just wrong, or have irreparably bad taste in movies.

(*edit* Pacino before he became a parody of himself)

Great actors and actresses vanish into the role they are playing, make you forget that you are watching someone acting, and are distinguishable from one role to the other. I'd throw in D'Onofrio for the "Great" conversation because he is a chameleon that changes his colors with every role he takes.

Shia is just Shia in every role he takes. If someone says he is a great actor, what they really mean is, "I've seen him in a lot of movies I like."

And if they try to reboot the Indiana Jones franchise with him at the helm, I hope that when I murder him, a grateful world will give me an airtight alibi.

May also need to add Duval, Norton, and Pitt to the Great category as well.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Denzel Washington, Benicio Del Toro, Tim Robbins, Joaquin Phoenix, Ed Norton, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Sidney Poitier, Leo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp (recently been pretty meh), Morgan Freeman (although fairly one dimensional), Dustin Hoffman, Clint Eastwood, Marlon Brando, maybe f*ck yourself Matt Damon. Some others I'd either add or at least give consideration to.

You're a tool. The majority of the actors you listed are poo tier. Besides the fact that you think zac efron is an elite actor what the fug are you smoking. At this point I'm going to assume you're trolling

Are you insinuating that people itt just don't "get it" because they aren't cool enough to see why Shia LeBeouf is a great actor? Because by that logic Skrillex and Demi Lovato are great musicians.

Haha no, I'm just noting the difference in tastes based off age groups.

I don't think it's a function of age group. Talent is talent. That's why Brando, Cat Hepburn, Newman and O'Toole are still regarded as greats decades after they were relevant. What changes over time is the ability to recognize talent.

With studios churning out tripe based on YA novels to turn a quick buck, and Michael Bay and James Cameron seemingly trying to convince the world that quick cuts, incomprehensible actions scenes, and CGI budgets that rival the GDP of many nations are "freakin' awesome," I'm afraid the younger generation might not ever know what great acting is.
