Conspiracy Theory Time

Haha, sorry.

Lol No worries.

Also just to be clear I don't actually believe this theory. I moreso just wanted to see what others thought. As many of you have highlighted it is likely the result of finacial restrictions and mismanagement. However the outcome may be the same with Cam have a below average season statistically, despite showing improvements in some key areas of his game. Nonetheless this will likely give Gettleman some wiggle room in the contract negotiations.

It tells me he doesn't have the money to set him up for success yet. But by all means ignore that receiver he drafted.

Well we had 12 million to pay Gano, 10.7 to pay Harper, 8 to pay Cotchery, 2.2 to pay Bell, 1 to pay Avant, .8 for Dickson, oh and 13.1 for Hardy. Obviously this isn't all guaranteed, but it's what could be or was planned. We also payed Godfrey this year to play out of position before cutting him and eating dead money. We also still have some cap space, around 6 million last I checked.

Do you possibly think things could have been done differently for the better this past offseason?

Yes but the loss of Hardy is the big one. If he's in there all the other marginal defensive signings look better.

Look, he hasn't been perfect. The o line is the biggest example of that. But he really doesn't have the money to build "his" team yet.

No they don't, that's a myth at best. Hardy isn't magic despite what everyone thinks. Mitchell, Mikell and Florence were absolutely better players.

Looking at the team and the roster moves Gettleman made during the off season. Does anyone else think it is a little too convenient that in a contract year for Cam he is protected by 4 undrafted FAs and has a new and arguably mediocre WR group.

Now usually I think the majority of conspiracy theories are stupid and created by bored people with nothing better to do (admittedly I could fit into this category). However given are cap situation, could Gettleman be playing the long game and hoping to drive Cam's asking price down?

If theoretically DG was just trying to devalue Cam's contract and he successfully does and we still resign him, then I'm happy he's our GM.
