What can we realistically do this offseason to protect Cam?

our defense has been put in tought spots the past couple of weeks. I wouldn't go as far as to say they suck (they're not great) but we need that ying and yang back in 2015.

Considering we've been blown out 5 times in the last 9 games, just saying they suck is probably being kind. We've poured so many resources into our defense, and we have basically nothing to show for it right now. We're basically back at square one. It's time we build a real offense.

i get that but i meant when the offseason hits. I would love for some capologists to post in this thread about what kind of money we might have to work with. Who some of the FA's will be and draft prospects.

oh.

i don't know specifics. just get a couple vets to help out on the line. we need talent and experience. drafting is a good idea, but not ifthe plan is to draft two guys you plan on starting and stick them on an already inexperienced line. rookie OL should be beside at least one very experienced lineman.

if we can't get a solid OT via FA (not talking all pro material...just solid) then trade for one using any of our draft picks after the first couple. a legit starting OT is well worth trading away your 3rd rounder.

also, decide who your starters are going to be during minicamp. the OL should be set heading into training camp so that they can get as many of their much needed reps with their QB as a unit before the season starts as possible. depth should be the only thing they are trying to find out in TC where the OL is concerned.

i dont keep up with upcoming FA's so I dont know who is available, but get a solid LT like Roos, draft a good T that should be capable of playing LT but start him at RT like we did with Gross and give him a year or two there. we need another high draft WR or possibly FA but i prefer to draft one in either the first or second. Draft a safety and a center as well. Kalil hasnt been any better than anyone else on the line and he is getting paid heftily. We could be in position after next offseason and a high draft pick to be a contender.

i agree about the last line. but it's always gonna be a ying and yang thing. when the offense flounders and can't stay on the field the defense will grow tired. when the offense turns the ball over in our territory its gonna put the defense in a bad spot.

this has happened time and time again this year. I admit they have had absolutely TERRIBLE games that is on them and not the offense but more times than most its because one unit is failing the other miserably.

we will have some more money to deal with next year to add a solid vet tackle i think we need to start with a vet playing LT but draft another LT and start him at RT to gain experience. I want LT in the 1st. i want to spend the hardy money on one of the top free agent LTs. I want to draft a 2nd round speed wr and 3rd round gaurd. I would then pick up a solid starting DB in free agency, keep him norman and bene as starters. draft a ss in the 4th and DE in the 5th. BPA for the rest.

Lucky for you I just did my first 2015 mock draft in the draft forum. Basically answers your question.

Answer:

too many young players on that line to start. We need a vet presence and i'm wondering if we can afford it next year. i've read next year is suppose to be better than this year.

i like rayzors idea: keep that draft, add a vet tackle and having that rookie slide to the right. Keep bell and chandler and the other drafted OT's as backups. We need an influx of offensive talent majorly.

I said add a vet at the bottom after my picks to help ease Flowers and Fisher in. Ideally I'd like the vet to start at LT to give Cam just a little peace of mind and Flowers at RT. Have Fisher waiting and learning.

As far as Bell and Chandler go I've seen enough. If Bell has to start next year it better be at RT so Cam can atleast see Bell get beat. Chandler is a guard at best but I really like Norwell and Trai looks promising.

Personnel is a part of it, but offensive system is a major part as well. Look at Chip offense and what Sanchez was able to do. Granted it was against our defense but the flow of their offense, the passing routes all plays a part. We have a coaching staff that thinks what Chip does is bad. Oh dont want to run a no huddle quick offense although Cam excels at it, cause when need to keep our 30th ranked defense fresh. Lets wait 30 sec for the play to be messaged to Cam and it's a read option

Our offense has been exposed. A lot of people want to blame Cam, but wtf the defense know what we're going to run before we run it and our WRS dont scare anybody except KB who is getting a lot of attention. This is what happens when you have an average OC. Reasons why I want these mofers gone. Absolutely no adaptation

I feel like I'm watching a college team in the 90s

Hopefully we will end up high enough in the draft to get a starting LT or RT. After that we just need to find a solid LT in FA. Really anyone not a scrub will be better than what we currently have. We also could bring in a blocking TE so that we can give Cam more protection, thats something we dont currently have on the roster and why is beyond me.

Other than that we need a head coaching change and some new excitement back in the building.

Did you see the Dolphins offensive line last year? Have you seen it so far this year (although now it won't be as good as LT Albert was just put on IR)? Their line last year was arguably worse than ours this year. They upgraded through FA and the draft and basically turned it into a top 10, maybe top 5 line. Was a huge upgrade for their offense and team which I don't think is much better than ours aside from  offensive coaching and o-line. Spend Hardy's money on FA LT, draft a tackle in the first 3 rounds - he will 100% be better than Bell at RT, keep Norwell, Turner and Kalil and then put focus elsewhere. I think we can rebuild this team a lot with another offseason and with some contracts off the books.

Sign a RT and LG in FA.  Draft a LT and speedy WR in the first two or three rounds of the draft.  That will go a long way.  I've seen enough of Fozzy to think he can be a long term replacement for Deangelo so we don't really need to draft a RB in the middle rounds like I was previously thinking.

Sanchez was able to step up into the pocket to buy time. Cam has a bad habit of running outside the pocket once the edge rush gets to him, which leads to another issue of dropping back so far so quickly. Maybe he assumes the pocket will collapse every play but thats a mental issue he has to get over. But we have one of the worst guards in Amini and the most over rated center in Kalil that havent helped him either. The system is flawed for sure, but these guys aren't capable of running any system at this rate.
