I admit it: I'm more relieved that Cam and the team showed out in the 4th quarter than I would've been with a win.

Premise One: We're done, done, done. We're fucking done. Forget all your gung-ho batman lunchbox bullshit about winning the division. We're done. We are 3-7-1 and the Vikings, Browns, and Saints are going to stomp mudholes in our supple, well-oiled sphincters. We're going to finish 5-10-1. Get over it.

Premise Two: With a 5-10-1 record, Rivera is going to lose his job. Gettleman will clean house. Many of you hate him for it already, and many of you will hate him for it in January, but he will wipe the slate clean on both sides of the ball and on both sides of the field. Offense and defense, players and coaches. He's going to assemble a new staff and separate the wheat from the chaff.

Based on those two premises:

Everyone left on the roster after Gettleman nukes it will be there because they earned it. And today, Cam Newton led this team on two game-winning drives in as many minutes in spite of being forced to play with a couple of WWII vets at receiver and their wives at offensive line. We didn't win, but I was sitting at the bar chugging IPAs and posting in the gameday thread and I saw every single idiot that called for Cam Newton to be benched and insisted that "he's done in Carolina lol" and sweet hot god damn if Cam Newton didn't open every one of those mouths and take a long piss down every one of those throats. It was fuging beautiful. I wanted to punch all of you in the crotch, but Cam effectively did it for me.

Conclusion:

Cam Newton will get the long-term contract he deserves in the offseason and come back in 2015 with professional-quality offensive line, and all of you will thank sweet heebus jeebus christ that that fourth quarter went down like that.

Cam also had some horrible passes. He's very inconsistent still in his 4th year. My guess is he plays out the 5th year option and them the new staff decides then.

That's where the staff and personnel come in.

KillerKat said it earlier, but you don't regress as a quarterback after those first two seasons at the alarming rate Cam has this season without a complete tearing down of all his personnel and a change in scheme that minimizes his strengths and tries to make him into something he's not.

Cam and Luke are trying their asses off out there.

However to their detriment, the team isn't built to be a winner and we have bad coaches.

The offense is due for a heavy makeover and we get a new OC.  That is the VERY least at this very point even though I'd fire Rivera no questions asked.

Today was yet another example of why these two are a bad combo.

Cam plays balls to the wall, Ron plays balls in a jar.

Bottom Line: Management needs to find a coaching staff that can maximize the abilities Cam brings to the team.

If we are going to invest in Cam, we need to bring in legitimate coaches for him. The only decent coach he played for was Chud and the only reason he was considered poor, looking back on it now, is because of the defense. Think about is 24-7, 24-7, 21-0, 21-7. There were many more leads we have up but ultimately Chud put us in a place to win. Moral, if cam is going to be signed to a long term deal, do not do it in the name of "this is a guy we are going to build around" and do the exact opposite.

    • He didn't actually make the playoffs. We had several opportunities to clinch on our own and crapped the bed. We had to wait for Atlanta to win to get us in. We had the tie breaker in a poo division that had 3 teams finish 8-9.  If you go back and look at the games we played, we weren't a dominant offensive team under him as an OC. We beat the Jets 13-7 and barely beat the packers after they failed to convert multiple red zone trips. We relied heavily on converting 4th downs. DC was also extremely slow at recognizing trends in game and was really lacking with clock management.  Was there progress this year? Yes. But most of it was on the defensive side of the ball. Our offense was stagnant with a couple of exceptions. Any improvement from Bryce was minimal and he kept insisting on XL over Coker, and even RB distribution instead of going with the hot hand.  He may be building something, but I don't think we've seen enough to know what that is. It could go either direction. If he insists on being OC, then without a noticeable improvement, yes he needs to be on the hot seat like any OC would. The more jobs you take on the more you have to be judged on. I think he would have a longer leash if he hired a true OC and just focused in being HC.
    • zero percent suprised Luke is a nice guy irl, have never heard anything differently from anyone that's met him.  I have heard mixed reports on Smitty I know one guy on here got to know Deangelo Williams and J stew pretty well back in the day when they used to host events and he said they were nice iirc  I can't imagine Jordan gross is a bad hang, he's hilarious
    • Ran across this bit of fun. As seen on https://www.thesportinggent.com/blogs/dispatches/front-porch-musings-field-ethos-journal (a blog for outdoors gear and clothing)
