Dave Gettleman's Head Coaches

Mr. Scot

JR chose to fire Bill Polian...which I thought was a mistake

Polian wasn't really fired.  The Colts offered him what was effectively a promotion (Team President).

Since he was still under contract, Richardson lobbied the NFL to award the Panthers the #1 pick as compensation.

(how different would our history be if that had worked?)

if hes not your coach, what does it matter what his record is?

Gettleman came in specifically stating he wasn't just going to throw everyone out and replace them with his own people.

And only an idiot would fire a head coach coming off that kind of season with a future looking bright.

And how's that extension looking now? You don't extend someone based on one stretch of games given his track record.

Open your eyes.

Whats the downside? He can be fired any time, while if he did turn out another winning season he cant just jump ship and get paid.

Again, what is the downside.

Sounds pretty smart to me, gives the panthers the leverage.

Open your eyes.

not one of the QBs listed are mobile or a threat to run .so, is DG aware that he will have to adjust his philosophies in accordance with the hand he has been currently dealt?or will he acquire another QB?because so much of the decision process behind hiring a new coach revolves around your QB,ecspecially with Cams unorthodox skill set.

If DG is taking the "it's not my money approach" then yeah there's no downside. But you're missing the part where Rivera's contract is guaranteed. JR might not allow DG to fire RR because he doesn't want to pay RR to sit on the couch and flick his bean.

John Elway wasn't a mobile quarterback?

im excited to see Dave Gettleman shape this team to be 100% of his finger print. Coaches, players, contracts.

Dont judge too quick. Weve seen janitor Dave so far.

I still think Dave gets a lot of hype....too much.

Dave is the one who extended Ron too soon. Dave is the one who thought renting a DE was pretty much worth downgrading an OL, secondary, and ST by large margins. Dave is the one who just had one of his draft picks essentially stolen.

First round picks IMO aren't how you judge a GM. Dave gets "meh" from me so far. I still think his vision is exactly what we have watched in NY. A very in consistent product. Yeah, they lucked into some rings. I don't think NY is the model despite the rings.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
