Jason Avant Cut

Not sure why so many people are upset about it.  I mean, take your pick really, Cotch/Bersin/Avant = the exact same player.  I'd keep Bersin because of youth factor personally, and I love good possession receivers, but it never made sense to me on getting both Cotch and Avant.  Pick one, and continue to pursue the much needed speed.  I would have to agree that it's a testament to the coaches ability to evaluate talent on their roster more than anything.  That it took them this long to figure it out is baffling.

I'm not as upset about Avant getting cut as much as staff is not being held to same standard as the players are.

No accountability for the coaching staff. They just cut someone new every week because they think they are doing it right but players are failing them.

To a degree they are right, but at some point you have to think "maybe it is us"

To be clear it's not that Avant was cut that most people are upset.  He could have been cut weeks ago because he generally was misused and hasn't created separation all season.  With Avant's comments this move comes off as sour grapes, but this move could have been made ages ago.  Just shows how slow and inept this staff has been on a whole.  That's what's more upsetting than anything.  Avant clearly wasn't contributing that much but that was clear a long time ago.  Slow moves like this are ridiculous.  We could have been giving other guys burn already if that's the case.  Add to that Harper has been a serious detriment. Add to that the Godfrey situations.  It's all clear as day to everyone but Ron.

Rivera's staff on a whole is just a slow to respond, stubborn and an uneducated mess.

That's the argument--who the staff should've kept and I felt otherwise so just pointed it out.  Of course Bersin produced more, because we chose him over King.  What are you trying to say?

IMO, if it was the other way around, Bersin would be sitting on our PS because even Tampa wouldn't scoop him up and King would have similar numbers.  Neither are that great but one provides a deep threat option.

Well you can always play the what if game. It's kind of sad looking back at the confidence our staff had in McNutt and King.

Hopefully our luck has changed a bit with the position, because Brown looks pretty good at least.

I personally would have picked Cotchery. But if they wanted one of their young players to have a chance, it should have been weeks ago when things just weren't working.

Forget all the crying about what was done. I heard a number of times how people on this board wanted to Bersin get more time over Avant. I don't care who plays over who, I want to see some changes from our FO and or coaching staff being made to indicate at least an effort on their part. I'd love to see our offense come out and play an entire game like they played the 4th quarter against Atl.

These are fun threads because of all the sky is falling rhetoric.  Let's see who can out outrage the other.

Anyway, the Panthers signed the guy to be a leader/mentor to the younger guys and to contribute on the field.  Not sure how much of either he has done.

When you cannot do your own job that well, don't go round dumping on the boss.

He might have been correct in his statement, but not correct in making it.

He will not be missed on the field.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
    • I think google is confusing signing bonus with guaranteed money. If you get a guarantee of say $10 million, it doesn’t matter if the signing bonus is $5 or $8 million, it’s the $10 million number that affects the cap, as the signing bonus is always just a portion of the guaranteed money anyways. And again, I’ll admit I’m not 100% sure about it, but I’m pretty sure it is the case.
